Ok I am looking to find out if the model I purchased will work for what I think it will work for. I purchased and Etrex, I can never remember the model see pic. The wife and I are going for our first trip together alone in Mi next week and I purchased this as a just in case we get lost item we can find our way back. I know it is a very basic unit but I didn't want to spend all of my trip money buying one. I am just looking to use it to retrace my steps if we get lost along with using my map? Will it work like I think. Does anyone use one of these?

The unit you have is a good easy to use unit. The major drawback with it is that it does not have any mapping. Mapping has saved my butt plenty of times by telling you where the roads are, where the towns are - you will quickly figure out where you are and where you need to go with the mapping feature.
Best of all is you wife will never be able to nag that you are lost anymore!!
If you would consider exchanging your unit for the Garmin Etrex Legend it is on sale at WalMart for $159. I think the one u have was around $100 - for the extra $60 you will like it 50x more! - I use my Legend on driving trips - it will show you rest stops, major roads, etc.
Just my thought = like I said your model is a good, easy to use model and I have friends who like it for boating. Since there are not any roads boating (hope not anyways!) it is perfect.

You will probally have to have it mounted in order for it to receive a signal and track. Mine would not in my chest pocket even though my coat was thin. Test it out before really need to depend on it.

My parents bought me the same GPS, but I haven't got it yet (they are still in Arizona). Am I ever glad Corey put this GPS section up. It's too bad there is no mapping for it but at least I will get to learn how to use it and then I can upgrade. Thanks you guys for all the info.
