Just got back from first trip with a GPS and it was handy to have ,great to cross refrence with trail map, or to see how close next town is, really helped lake running in snowy conditions to make sure your headed to right area where trail comes out.
Im using a garmin legend with Ontario mapsource loaded, just using AA batt.s for now with small pocket hand warmers in carrying case to help extend life, then just put it in my tank bag map holder. Worked great good signal , nice to see your track at the end of the day, or just glance down to check position.

How long does your batteries last?, I have the Legend as well, but I keep it in my coat pocket while I'm riding and the batteries only last about 4-5 hours. Next season I plan on hard wiring though.

The day the handwarmer worked well it lasted all day(12hrs) last hr. or so with light on, i was very suprised. The next day hand warmer died early, but temps were warm I got about 7 hr.s before it quit, but it would restart and show about half strength after being at room temp for a while.
I was using duracells, but like you I hope to hard wire next year.
