Hey all,

I am just wondering if i put BR8ES plugs in my 95 XCR 440 SP what would happen?? I dont ride aggresively or ride alot. I need opinions. There were BR9ES in it but i got the champions RNC2 or somthing like that , i have heard that you can run BR8ES in it, if you dont go on long trips. Is this rite???? :slick:

^^explain^^ Because i have heard of people puttin in BR8ES for just short distances like a few miles that i would put on, they said that the BR9ES foul out too quick because you arnet warmin up the sled enuff. :confused: :confused: :confused:

I think the BR8ES are a hotter burning plug. I always ran 8's in my 96 xcr 440 without a problem.

I had been using br9es plugs and i found that when i would just be ditch banging and trail riding that they would foul out a lot. So i switched to br8es plugs and i haven't had any problems yet. The only thing is that it doesn't seem as snappy for some reason though,it could just be my imagination though. :crazy:

i run BR8ES in mine ALL the time, even for long trips, motor never gets too hot, no problems here, NEVER fouls.

My 94 XLT called for BR9ES and I ran BR8ES with no problems for over 6000 miles. The 8 is hotter.

I'll stick with my 9's.

Depends on the temperature and the jetting. NGK 8’s are hotter than 9”s Champion 3’s are hotter than 2’s. If your sled recommends 9’s you should stick with them. If your plugs are oily or black after riding on a normal day, you should probably move to the hotter plug.

xcr,
are you gapping your plugs ?

Just use what is reccomended for your sled. Then you can go to Polaris if somethin srews up and it was due to the plug. The conversion from Champion to NGK is as follows (I believe).

Champion NGK

RN2C = BR9ES

RN3C = BR8ES

*But both plugs are good, and never really heard anyone having problems with fouling.

But like I said, use the plug reccomended and then you dont have to worry.

Good point Paul. They don't come gapped out of the box. Ski-Doo has a considerably different gap than Polaris. :slick:

I am curious , my 650 had 9's in it , and it always fouled a plug if it didn't warm up REALLY good , it would always foul a plug , every time , once it was warmed up it was ok , once i get it back together i think i am going to try the 8's , since i only have one 9 left.

another ? . how do i turn up the oil injection pump? i want to give it a lil more oil , i don't think it was getting enough.

To adjust the oil you just have to adjust the cable hooked to the pump. There is 1 line on the oil pump and 2 lines on the lever. The line on the pump should line up with one on the lever when you are applying no throttle and the other when you are wide open but if you want more just tighten the cable some with the nuts on the cable. You will find it under your carbs. But don't over do it the lever only moves about 90 degrees so it wont take much to add more.

I'm not sure about the initial question about 9's and 8's but I did learn something from this post. I have a 1999 500 XC SP and a 1998 Ski-Doo Grand Touring 500 and they both take BR9es plugs and I carry bunch with me and I didn't know they were gapped differently. Thank you.

I just checked both manuals for spark plug gap and they were .028" for the Polaris and .018 for the Ski-Doo. Polaris recommends Champion RN2C and Ski-Doo NGK BR9ES. Would the gap be the same for Champion and NGK?

The gap won't change between brands.

You would think so,but i've found a pretty good variance in "new out of the box" plugs.
A plug gapper is cheap,i've had one on my key chain forever,I always check a plug before installing it,especialy if it's been in a plug caddy or something other than the original box it came in>

Look on the inside top of your hood,there should be a tag with gap and jetting recomendations for different elevations.
