Hi guys today my 96 zr580 efi i'd be out going at a normal cruising speed and my sled would suddenly die down like someone yanked the choke on and would do that for a second or so and if i played with the throttle it would pick up and go back like normal. After it did it a couple of times i stopped took out the plugs and they looked normal but i still threw in a new set. I went a little longer and i did the same thing so i started to come back home with it just pinned and it was okay until i came into one field and it was all i could do to keep it moving but it would idle fine. I checked for codes at home and the throttle sensor code was on so i teseted it and it was fine. I unplugged the ecm and now theres no codes flashing and after a quick ride it ran like normal so does anyone have an idea about my problem.

With an EFI sled your always best to start with checking / cleaning all connections, use dielectric grease when plugging them back in. Don't forget all the ground connections as well.
I assume your running iso in the fuel tank, if not your issue might be just that simple.
Rick.

i had a similar problem.every time i would stop for a rest it would take 20 pulls to start my sled.i was told to use gasline antifreeze to solve this problem.

Thanks guys i had dumped in a bottle of heat and it was still having problems all my grounds seem good. It might have been my airbox had snow in it i was playing in the powder before i went trail riding and i had a problem with it last year. I think i'll just take my buddies rev out today instead.

My problem is the same. :cussing: So keep the threads comin'. Starts great, idles great, had it up off the ground and engaged the clutch then brought it up to 40MPH and ran great. As soon as I sit on it and try and ride it, it cuts out then comes back then cuts out and so on. Checked the plugs and they are both nice and brown.
I've changed the spark plug wires and the plugs. I always use anti-freeze when I fill up and when this started happening I added more with no change. I remember some posts in here about problems with the kill switch and a grommet or something on the throttle????
A buddy of mine told me to try a kill switch by-pass plug but I don't have one in my tool kit.
Just a note that I was out Saturday with a group of 5, the day this all started, and I was sucking up snow dust for the whole 160 miles. It was snowing and blowing all day.
I don't think it's the gas because I filled up about 5 miles from home, added anti-freeze and still no change.
I need some Snowmoblile World advice to get back on the trails. :(

valleyrider my bet is that you froze your air box with snow i did that last year with mine. I was playing in the powder all day and let the sled sit out side all night, the next day it started very hard and after a mile it just died and wouldn't start after a night in a heated garage it was fine. Also what sled do you ride.

I Had the same problem with me sled just few weeks back and it ended up being the timing sensor. When you hit the gas the rpms fluctuate up and down and doesnt want to run right....stalls alot. I dont know if this is the problem but it sounds just like my problem. The sensor is behind the recoil cover. It is a little black sensor on the left top side of the flywheel and has 2 wires. Atleast thats the way it is on my sled (02 zr 800 efi). Good luck

I ride a '00 ZL 600.
I'm taking it to my Arctic Cat buddy tonight. He thinks it might be something in the kill switch/throttle area.

Common problem on the Cats, ETC (electronic throttle control) the device incorperated into the throttle for cable freeze up is going south. Have it replaced and I believe your problems will be over. To test, fire up the sled and apply throttle with your thumb pushing in various positions. (upwards and in, downwards and in) It will cut out if this is the problem. My case, second Cat, both had it.

I took out the sled today and same problem. The throttle position sensor code came up today and when i tested it today it wasn't giving the same readings as yesterday.

CRaZyDRyWaLLgUy, I just ordered a timing sensor for my 99 zr600efi, it is cutting out at 50-55 mph
Resaistance specs are 140 - 220 ohms, mine is at 80 ohms, my buddies tested at 160 ohms. - hope it solves my problem for $120.00.

Snowride, I think you nailed it.
We played with the throttle housing by moving it around and the revs changed. I think I'm going to order that part.
Thanks Snowmoble World. SWRules
