I own a 1996 Formula 3. I am new to the snowmobiling sport. There are three arms in the primary that lock the clutch into high gear. Do I need a new clutch, rebuild, or a cleaning to fix this problem. I have had sled for a month and was running great. Went out and opened it up across a field. Let up on gas and it stalled. Can anyone help me with this dilemma please.

has anyone had the clutch appart?.. it would seem thst mabe your arrows are not lined up if it has been appart. if it has never been appart and all is stock then mabe the rollers are done or the bushing on the movable sheeve.

Pull it apart and give it a good cleaning. The arms may be stuck or you could have a broken spring.

We had a guy not put the otter half all the way back into the splines and tighten up the bolt. The clutch shifted too far and the arms became stuck past the ramps. The other thing that may be your problem is the the 3 bolts that hold the spring in could have let loose and your clutch will stay in all the time.

what does this have to do with it sticking wide open. All the arrow are for is balancing the clutch.
If you can't see the 3 arms wedge out on a visual inspection then I would bet its the second scenario. Either way get a clutch puller and take it off.

OOOPS don't use any lubricants , make sure you clean the clutch you will ruin your belt , use acetone , alchol to clean , stay away from your pto seal when cleaning your clutch w/ solvents. if it's still on your engine

Hey guys...I was just looking for some info on this same post. I have a 1991 Yamaha SRV. We just came back from northern WI. My wife kept having problems with the clutch not disengaging, especially in the turns and crossing roads, whenever at lower RPM's. We pulled into a gas station and I used some SAE30 on the shaft to try and help loosen it. Of course, this was last case scenario since we were far from our cabin and a long tow back. It did work and didn't get stuck as often. The sled would then go redline at 7500rpm's, I assume because of the oil, so we kept at a slow pace.

I could see alot of metal dust inside the clutch housing. I'm not sure that I really want to rebuild this since it is the original clutch and can't find anything on Dennis Kirk that is acceptable for this sled. Is there a good clutch out there other than Comet that I can go with? (DK already had Comet, but nothing to fit.) And does anyone know of any good sites that would have clutches for sale? (EBAY was already checked also).

My sled was doing the same thing the last time I was out. Did you notice any strange noise(almost like a grinding noise) coming from the sled? Have you had any luck fixing it so far?
Can any one help please?

My wife was driving and heard the noise. I ran it about a mile and noticed a metal-metal rubbing noise. Sounded like something was hitting the aluminum shroud or belly pan. Wasn't like a steel-steel sound.

No luck fixing it yet. I pulled it off the trailer when we came home from our trip to WI and it went straight into the garage. Lovely snow conditions here in IL make it look like we had our 3 weeks of snowmobiling for the year and she has another sled to ride, so I am not too concerned about it. I was planning to make a monster out of my 95 VMAX, but I think I will make a summer project and sink the $$ into the SRV and have it up and running for the fall. I would still like to find a good clutch for it or any other sites that have hi-perf merchandise to sink into it.
