Anybody use wiesco pistons? are they any good? i melted the 800 yesterday and need to make a decision today. I get Cat pistons buy the end of the week but can have the wiesco kit today and its about $100.00 cheaper.

Wiseco pistons are an excellent product BUT do require you be far more carefull regarding warming the sled up properly before giving it a shot. IMHO stock pistons work out far better in the long run but only for the warm up reason.
Do you know what happened to cause the burn down?

I dropped the needles at the begging of the season and it was fine. I even ran it at -30c with no problems but yesterday I was out playing in the powder and I guess it just loaded up enough to melt.

How about Kimpex?

I've never heard anything good about Kimpex, or other aftermarket discount pistons. Go OEM or Wiseco. I've only used OEM. I think you can expect better quality and product backup with OEM and Wiseco.

i have always had good luck with wiseco, never used them in sleds, never rebuilt a sled either, but many times used them in my dirt bikes and the big bore kit in my atv is a wiseco, never a problem with them and i wouldnt think twice about putting them in my sled once i get a new chassis so i can put the sled back together!!

Sorry to hear the needle dropped didn't work out so well, did you notice much of a performance gain?
I would stay away from Kimpex pistons I've had issues using them in the past that ending up costing far more than I saved buying them. Might be a good deal if your selling the sled the day after you install them.
In most cases the OEM pistons stand up the best, spend a little more now and save alot later.

Best of luck either way

If you are running wiseco pistons, you better give them some good clearance 8 to 10 thousands or you will be doing a motor job. Stick with OEM if you can.

dropping the needle really woke it up in the midrange and of idle but there is obviously not enough margin for error!

Oh well, chalk it up to experience and move on.
I assume your cylinder came out of it ok.

Cylinder is not bad but its going to the machine shop tomorrow with the pistons (wiseco) to get lapped it and all the clearances and taper checked.
