:(
I owned a 96 xcr 600 for about two seasons- the sled when it's running good is an awesome sled-gotta love a triple- but i had all kinds of problems with it and was never fully confident when riding on long trips. If you know how to wrench and aren't afraid to always be tinkering i'd steer clear, find a twin.

4000 is WAY TOO HIGH! I paid 1600 for mine with a long track, powder skis and a bunch of other new stuff. Just make sure you aren't getting "taken" on this deal by your "cousin". The only wrenching I've done on mine has been general maintenance, and replaced a broken driveshaft that coincidently took out the chaincase in the process. I since put one off an XLT in there with the four sprockets. The four sprockets vs. just 2 on the original XCR shaft should reduce the bending moment substantially. The thing runs awesome. What year?

Like the others said, need more info.
I'll be looking for a 95-96 XCR when I get back to the US. Then I'll combine the two and have plenty of extras. :D My sled has always been in our riding "group" so I'll always keep it around. It's been thru h@ll and back so it deserves a little TLC.
My sled was DEAD reliable(7K miles), only issue EVER was when I had a plug come out at WOT across a field, by by piston. Top end needed a refresh anyway. :)

$1600 is a common price us currency any more is a bit rediculous. I have a 1996 and the only thing to look for is to make sure it has the crank update on it. The sled needed more oil and the update enlarges the oiling hole. otherwise they could take out a crank. I have 8000 miles on mine with the update and it is trouble free.... even after the hop ups i put on it 2000 miles ago... my sled has taken out ever stock 800 i have raced and many modified 700s. I have many tips for this sled if you want to make it rip...also hop ups are dirt cheap because the sleds were so popular. I have even seen sets of pipes go for $100. If you need help with this sled e mail me at liftedandgifted@hotmail.com also if the sled is a 1996 it has a thinner head gasket to give it more hp over the 95. if it still has this head gasket try to always run premium gas.. hope i helped you out.

forgot to ask you there arre two different xcrs in 1996 there were the wedge style with single pipe and the agressive chassis which was a xcr sp with triple pipes from the factory and these sleds are worth even more hope it helps.

That's not a very good sled to be honest and $4K is WAY to high, try $2K.

I will have to disagree with you fennsz... the 96 XCR 600's are a good all around sled lots of power. I paid 2800canadian for mine with 1750miles on it and spent about 700candian extra to deck it out... and like liftedandgifted said, these machines when modded right, will take out stock 800's and modded 700's. Recently I have upgraded to a newer A/C 800 (modded) and the 600 does not to bad of a job to keep up with it. But of course when I decide to hold the 800 to the bars it has no chance keepin up in a straight line but take it to the sno-x track and it might suprise you. But 4000 bucks is still WAY too much even if it is Canadian bucks.
