What type of riding do you do and in what conditions do you ride?

My friend as 48 on his track, he still can take the curves broad-side and he has a lot of traction... depends on what your looking for

96 down the middle like oldyeller said will be good. You never talked length but I recommend .875 long. This will give you .355 penetration. Most will recommend between .25 & .375 for trail use.

Depends on how you ride. If aggressive then go with 96 down the middle. If an average trail rider, then 72 is plenty. FWIW Dennis Kirk has a great chart for number of studs based on horsepower as I'm sure Woody's does too.
A buddy has an 02 SRX 700 with 96 down the middle and I was in movin down a road and punched it at 80 mph and absolutely got the sled sideways!
Lesson: horsepower dictates the number of studs.

I have a good magazine comparison on this subject(ancient Race and Rally magazine) and the best setup was always at least 96.This will give you the longest lasting setup with no pull throughs and minimum wear on each stud.Of course if you have big hp you will need more than this.
