Hi guys i need your help i'm looking to get a different sled next year and i've found a couple of sleds. One is a leftover 02 mxz 700 rer for 4800 or a used 00 mxz 700 with mechanical reverse for under 4000. My questions are there any problems with these that i should know about and if their pluses and minuss

Has been lots of talk of bad cranks in the 00 For a $1000, why would u even consider the 00?

If you can afford it, defineatly go for the new one....there's not much difference in those two sleds, same reed valve 700, same ADSA front suspension, same SC-10II rear (i think)....one is brand new with 0 miles, while the other has some use, maybe abused, never know what has or hasn't been maintained....you could buy the other one, and still drop a grand into it getting it into brand new condition, and its still 2 years older...

I've got a 2000, and it's a good sled(after I repaired the crank bearings), but
I'd say go for the '02. No crank problems, Bombi upgraded the charging system, so the lights stay brighter, and the hand warmers work much better. Also, it has the SC10-2 skid, and flat slide carbs--throttle pull is greatly reduced......My $.02 worth

For the small difference in price take the 02. Love the RER in my Legend, and have heard about too many crank bearing stories in the earlier 700's.

thanks guys i know the guy with the 2000 mxz and its in top shape he really takes care of it. Also i was wondering how the sleds handle, what kind of mileage they get and how much horsepower they have. Any info is appreciated.

2002 had sc-10III with 2 inches more travel,1.5 inches more front travel(sport).precision ski's,heated flat-side carbs,techno-seat,racing grips. I love my 2002 700 sport

the 2000 mxz spring order 600 I ride has a much heavier pull with the round slide carbs compared to the newer flatsides, it kinda sucks because the 2000 brochure said it would have flatsides but they didn't get them calibrated right yet, so that is one advantage
if you do much jumping or even both feet on one side riding, I would reinforce the running boards on either sled, the 2002 mxzx had the stronger ones though
and also the suspension was improved to the sc10-3, more comfortable I heard
good luck, there are many sleds to choose from at that price range

depending on the packages it might have different gearing in it also.

I can't really compare the two years for you. Just wanted to say I had an 02 Sport and loved that sled. I certainly don't think you would be unhappy with it.

Thanks guys for all the help tomorrow i'm borrowing a 2000 mxz to see if i like the way the sleds are, i've never ridden a newer ski-doo so i wantr to see if i like it. I'm mainly leaning towards the 2002 mxz but first i have to sell my sled and get some money. I quess that i'll have to peel the team arctic sticker off my truck.

a riding buddy had the 00 spring edition mxz 700 for the past couple of years. was a good sled, till the bottom end went at about 3000 km's. he got it rebuilt and then the next year it went again. quick sled when it ran but other than the bottom end problems the sled was great. he sold it needing rebuilt for $3800 last fall. i believe they were in the low 120 hp range.

Sounds like a familiar problem, bottom ends. Go for the 02.
