OK everyone, I'll try not to get too winded,
Last night I decided to take my Scorpion LiL Whip out for a ride.(just had my seat redone, looks great) I live on the Iron Rande in Minnesota and there are large mine dump hills to climb, and lots of areas to go for powder. Well, we have had a week of 30-40 degrees. The snow is melting so it's very sticky. As I was riding my sled it died out. Looked at the fuel filter and it was clogged. So I quickly cleaned it out and went back home.
Decided to take my Chaparral 440 out and play. Went to the same spot. Was playing around, doing power turns in the sticky powder when my sled started to slow down. The engine was running fine, but it was slowing down until it finally stopped. As I said, the motor was running fine but fir some reason, it wouldn't turn the track. I thought maybe I didn't have any oil in the chaincase and it froze up. I felt the chaincase and it was cold. So that wasn't the problem. I flipped the sled on its side and to my amazement, snow had packed so tightly in the boggy wheels and in the track, that it bound up. It was so packed that the track would not turn or move.
So I decide to walk home to get my dad's Indy Classic long track to pull it out.(back home) I just about have the "big one"(heart attack) walking home. I drive the sled in front of the Chaparral to make a good trail. I hook the sleds together and give it a try. The Chap didn't even budge!
So, now I have my dad's sled stuck, and it's heavy!!!!! I dig around the sled and give it a push while I hammer on the throttle. As I push the hadlebars decide to push forward and the sled gets even more stuck. And now the handlebars are moving back and forth(need to tighten nuts) After 45 min. I finally get it out and go home. I still have to get my Chaparral out though. I went home, thought about it and called a buddy to help. What I decided to do was get a 5 gal. drinking water bucket. Fill it with hot water, turn the sled on its side and pour the water on the boggy wheels and the drive axle. I started up the sled and dusted off the track. Thank god it worked!
Hope everyone enjoyed reading about my misery. Has this ever happened to anyone out there?
