: The Beginning Of The End
The Hossman 02-26-2004, 08:13 PM What is with this weather??
There's no temps below 0 in the short range - and the long range looks even worse!! And it's still officially February for pete's sake!!!
A friend of mine was out last night and reported lots of bare patches, water on the trail and nasty road crossings. We're going out for a little rip now, could it be my last ride of the season???
If things don't take a drastic change for the better AND SOON, us Southern Ontarians can say goodbye to the winter of 03/04......
Sad really.
What's more sad is that Winter Hossman turns into Summer Hossman now, when instead of riding snowmachines 24-7, I talk about snowmachines 24-7....
oldyeller 02-26-2004, 08:31 PM I've heard the forcast is for a long cool spring. That is what we will have if the snow goes already.A couple of months of ####ty weather.I can't stand listening to the weather forcasts on the radio.Everyone is sooooo happy that the snow is melting :cussing:
phat_cat800 02-26-2004, 08:33 PM Yeah it can soon be the end of riding here in central NB, seems like everywhere else in Atlantic Canada got blistered with a few good storms but everyone went around us :cussing: . It was above 0 yesterday but was cool again today but Saturday its suppose to warm up and stay warm for a while and rain first of the week. If we dont get any snow soon it will be the end of the season here, guess its about time to go register the 4-wheeler again.
vapourtrail 02-26-2004, 08:46 PM i wouldn't buy an atv if it was summer all year round..............
MikeD 02-26-2004, 09:01 PM I plan on spending my birthday (end of March) riding up north. I don't care if I have to drive to Cochrane, I wanna get that b.day ride in!!
92Indy440 02-26-2004, 09:21 PM I HEAR YA! Old man winter is being a panzy latly, he's got nothin left to give us. What a wuss! No word of a lie, yester day I went out snowmobiling in a sweat shirt, helmet, and gloves, and I wasnt even cold!
1350CFM 02-26-2004, 10:01 PM With only 2 weekend riding trips under my belt for the Winter I'm glad I only have $1800 in my sled  Temps in the upper 50's here at home  The KTM is looking pretty good :inlove:
puree 02-26-2004, 11:46 PM I rode a few days here in December,,,then when we went up north on our trip it snowed here so when we got back we had 2 more days,,,, 4 days of riding down home this year (so far),,,still have my fingers crossed

If theres snow up there at the end of march Karen&I might venture up there too.
Your birthday sounds like a good reason to me.Mike you are one entertaining guy.
doonut 02-27-2004, 09:17 AM Last weekend the Muskoka trails were already hurting. By this Saturday I can only imagine how bad they will have gotten. Wont even crack 2000 miles for the season dammit. Oh well, I guess I'll still have a relatively new sled for next season. Guess I better get going on building the motor for the Eliminator soon, looks like I am going to need it sooner than I thought :(

Yep.
I cancelled my trip this weekend, due to these conditions. Muskoka trails will be hell in this warm weather.
Unfortunately, its time to start thinking about Salmon Fishing. May go pay the boat a visit this weekend. Damn, I don't want to wax that thing again.

NewfieBullet 02-27-2004, 09:29 AM Winter is all but over for me too. One more four day weekend, and I pack up and head back to Ontario. Talk about depressing.
Anybody who has the time and money can go to Newfoundland, where conditions are just now reaching their peak. Lots of snow, it's got a good bottom, trails are all nice, and you can go anywhere you want to go in the country now. March is usually pretty good for sunshine, and there's nothing better then spring riding.
To top it all off, there's still at least 6 weeks left in the season here.
legendrider 02-27-2004, 10:45 AM We too had one more weekend planned, but it doesn't look good 10c for Monday and rain next week, I maybe got out 4 times this year seriously thinking about getting out, if I could find someone with any interest in spending a small fortune for 4-5 rides a year..
LB700 02-27-2004, 10:56 AM It's been the worst season for me ever....
No snow until January -- fully rebuilt engine working well.
Fell off sled at low speed. and broke ankle -- out for 4 weeks.
Back riding, then blew piston/cylinder -- out for two weeks.
If we don't get some good riding in in March, I'm seriously thinking about selling the friggn' thing, and I NEVER thought I'd hear myself saying that!
Thanks for letting me vent -- I feel better now - LOL
Pray for snow!

Peter/NY is thinking of heading up as well, let's stay in touch and keep an eye on conditions!!
doonut 02-27-2004, 01:23 PM One lousy season and you talk of selling off sleds and giving up? Geeesh guys, remember last season? Some years are good, some not so good and some fantastic. Its the NATURE of the sport. Go buy a nice fast boat and forget about your sled until next season:)
P.S. Fishog, I'll trade ya waxing jobs, you do my 25 footer top and bottom,2 coats please and I'll wax your fishin boat ;)
spikegary 02-27-2004, 01:43 PM Think 'Indian Spring'. Maybe we'll go back to having real winter........crap, I have to go register my little one ofr baseball this weekend........
92Indy440 02-27-2004, 03:46 PM Don't worry guys... This is only a break to get rid of all the "old" used snow we've torn up. But in another week and a half, we'll see another foot or two of fresh virgin powder. :D .......I hope!

I've been hoping for that all winter, but we have only had 2 maybe 3 days of snow since Janurary. just checked the weather and there not calling for rain now but still temps above 0 and a highs of +7*C, that alone is enough to melt the little snow we have on the trails.
RacerX408 02-27-2004, 03:54 PM well i got my riding in, about 2000 miles. there wasnt decent riding around here till the second week in january and it's still pretty darn good for the warm weather. coming home from my buddies place last night and saw the groomer out. good sight to see cuz they're usually pretty picky about grooming the trails unless there is a major base. i'm not too worried. we'll get another blast, we always do. keep up the faith guys.

Vmaxrida 02-27-2004, 05:22 PM We have had a good winter this year.We had snow many days in january and I rode from home a lot this year which was awesome. Also last week when we had off from school we rode the 1,000 island trails and Tug hill which was awesome so I have had a good winter even though I had some trouble with my sled.......Just this week it started gettin warmer and melting the snow which is making me mad but hopefully we get a storm the first or second week of march. I SURE HOPE WE DO!!! :hallo1:
ZR600_NS 02-27-2004, 05:45 PM Right now the conditions in Nova Scotia are good, after the 3+ feet we had last week, in fact the groomers are having a tough time in places. Hopefully, if the weather holds out we should be sledding for a while yet.
Don't go planning on selling your sleds yet, sometimes you got to stick it out through a couple of bad winters. I try not to have a fortune tied up in my sled, that way I don't get too discouraged if we have a bad winter. SWRules
SaskRider 02-28-2004, 09:18 PM Been riding since I bought my sled in late Oct. Got another 1/2 foot yesterday. Did a 70 km ride yesterday with nine lakes. When I went off the trail on the lakes it was at least 3 1/5 snow on the lakes. Since I bought my sled I love Saskatchewan
puree 02-28-2004, 09:50 PM I would be happy with a 6 to 8 inch snow fall one night were I could simply go out and ride some ditches or fields,,, my goal every year is 1000 mile and last year I finally reached it,,, I am at 800 right now and really dont wanna miss my goal,,,,,,
OntRider 02-29-2004, 05:28 PM Hopefully it's not quite over yet... I have tenatively scheduled a ride in Sudbury next weekend. The forecast looks somewhat promising even if it's 8C there today:

CORY9 02-29-2004, 05:53 PM The wife and I do the same thing every year, talk about selling the sleds. But it only takes one good ride, and all is forgotten!
Now where's that snow!
OntRider 02-29-2004, 06:07 PM I think the key is having something equally enjoyable to do during the summer. I don't have any fair weather play toys, but plan on buying a dirt bike soon. That'll keep me entertained while waiting for snow :)
FeelTheThunder 02-29-2004, 08:10 PM I am starting my second week of 3 weeks holidays out at the cottage. I work all summer and take no holidays in the warm weather except for the long weekends. We had a little meltdown but we have so much snow this year it dosen't really matter. I am supposed to be getting 5-10 cm tomorrow and colder weather is on it's way.
Perfect for my last 2 weeks of holidays. :D :D

I agree but prepare to hate fall and spring. No snow but too cold for the bike. I'm gonna be ichy for a ride until the bikes come out.
I always found fall and spring were the best times to ride, at least if you're on a quad. The summer is just too dusty to ride with more than one other person.
I gave up on all my summer toys. I found it too frustrating to have them, but never have time to use them. I figure I'm better off if I devote myself 100% to work in the summer, and 100% to snowmobiling in the winter.
This has been my best winter yet. 3000 miles in a little over 6 weeks of riding. More than 3 times what most other people have here so far.
I still can't believe I've got to put it away this though. Can anybody recommend a good anti-depressant?
puree 03-01-2004, 11:54 AM very sad to even think about this post right now
OntRider 03-01-2004, 12:11 PM No far north, late season excursions for you, Andy? I am hoping it's not too late, but we'll see what damage the rain does this week.
LB700 03-01-2004, 12:23 PM Can anybody recommend a good anti-depressant?
Sure can, but they're not legal -- LOL.
March came in like a lamb, so we might look forward to some more storms before she's done (ever the optomist).
I have a funny feeling that by the time I get my new pistons and cylinder back into my sled, it will be water-skipping time.
Dammit...I only got about 1/4 my normal riding amount in this year (less than 1000 miles -- it's pathetic, and I would not even want to think about the cost per mile this season).

:( Sad but true. I was out for a little bit this morning and the conditions are getting alot worse. Its about +20*C here in the sun and the past 3 days our snow has dropped about 6". I was out cleaning the mud off the sled in a T-shirt and tomorrow there calling for rain, so I'm going to go in pick up some greese, fuel stabilizer and registration for my 4-wheeler. This sucks :cussing:
