I have just purchased a new sled and want a few opinions on it. It is a 2001 Mach Z with a little work done. Head was shaved .040, Port timing raised .060, 145 psi compression, crankshop pipes and 3 stinger silencers. 410 main jets with gutted air box. delta 2 v-force reeds. Primary clutch has 295 ramps and a green and white spring. Secondary has black ice helix 52/48. stock gearing and runs synthetic oil. How is this set-up? suggested improvements? It is used mainly for aggressive trail riding. Any idea how many hp this thing is?
Thanks in advance.....

How does it run? Is it a good all around performer?

What would you like to improve one? Power? Clutching? Weight tranfer?

You can't cut the cake and eat it all.

My 00' Mach is begging me for more power, but its so well mannered now, I don't want to decrease anything performance wise, by making any wrong modification decisions.

I may do a simple mod like yours in the near future, but it has to be well mannered, very trailable, and low maintenence.

For about $1800.00US, I can have about a 180-185hp triple, while maintaining very good driveability and trail mannered.

This thing is a rocket out of the hole.....and still kills when you spank it a 75 mph but you have to watch out for ski lift then. 1.25" track with 196 studs.
I am still getting 8 - 11 mpg depending on how I ride that day. It is still well mannered coming out of corners on the trail......Just looking to squeeze a li'l more !!

it sounds like you have a nice running machine,,, if your not happy with it, then strap a rocket on the back end,,,,

I once had a guy that wanted bass in his car,,,he bought a set of 10's,,, did everything he could with them, not loud enough,,,,,,next it was 12's,,, then 15's,,, he finally bought a set of 18's and was a happy camper,,,

moral is,,,, you cant buy a set of 10's when you are after the thump of the 18,,,,

If your goal is more speed, then changing the gearing is about the only choice you have. If the sled is pulling full RPM i.e' 8300-8500 easily then you can load it down a bit with some different gearing. The engine stock, is powerful, with your mods it's even more so. It should be able to handle some additional load from a gearing change, just don't go crazy. Clutching doesn't usually give you top end, it just improves the drive efficiency, enabling you to get the freight up and going sooner. My two cents once again. :dazed:

I am glad your friend is happy with 15's, I am happy with my Mach. I did't buy a set of 10's, I bought ski-doo's flagship bag girl sled. I guess you could compare a loud speaker to a loud and FAST sled(if you must). I didn't ask for bigger did I? I just want to know if I can squeeze a lil' more.
