I just took out my original track on my 01 MXZ 800 (5300 miles) and installed a camoplast 9837H, and cannot get the track to align. I have about 1/2" between hyfax and track guides on the left and the guides are about touching on the right. It doesn't matter what I do with the adjuster bolts, the track will not center. I thought maybe I pressed the speedo side bearing on too far as I replaced it when I had the shaft off, so I took everything back out and verified the placement of the bearing. I then made sure I tightened up the lower gear side first, thinking maybe I did the speedo side the first time, pulling the drive shaft over. Put everything back together, and still the same situation. What am I missing? There is about a 3 mm gap from the driver sprockets to the track lugs, making it look like the drive shaft is shifted to the speedo cable side. Snap rings are in on both ends of the shaft, and everything seems to fit fine until I try to align the track. Could it be the track?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

dave,
wow, seems pretty wierd never had that prob or heard of anyone having this problem maybe it is a defective track. If you had it apart you coud always switch the track so that it would be running backwards. That would tell you if the track was bad or not. if it is bad your slack should be on the right and tight on the left. Just a idea, good luck. Andy

well i havent heard that problem before ....but have you tryed to turn the track with it like that ? ? ? ? it may be possible that you are off a cog from one side to the other....if not just get a little physical with the track to may be move it into place...

Did you figure out your problem yet? If not, measure up the placement of the drive lugs compared to your old track. If its the same then you might have to mess with the chain case. I had my chain case off this weekend and discovered something. There was a washer between the chaincase and bulkhead on the lower left bolt stud. I bought the sled new so it was placed there by the factory or the dealer. The only reason that I can come up with for the washer being there would be to square up the drive axle with the rear axle. You should find an accurate way to measure this distance on both sides. First be sure to have the drive axle perpendicular or square with the rails. If the drive axle is not realatively close which I suspect its not, you will have to shift the drive axle by placing washers in various places behind the chain case.
Remember this is not something I read in the manual, its just my theory based on my expierience. Another thing that could affect the track allignment would be having your suspension bolted up correctly. Were there any washers or spacers that you forgot to put in when bolting the suspension to the tunnel. This would set the whole suspension off to one side. Also a kinked tunnel would cause this.

Thanks for the ideas scrap iron, both make sense for sure. I didn't take off my chaincase, but rather followed the shop manual instructions and slid the driveshaft towards the chaincase, and pop out the other side. No spacers on the suspension, and I have had it out several times before. Still have the problem, but I put 300 on last weekend, and no issues other than the track being off to one side.

Thanks for your help.

One of my friends had the exact same problem. We couldnt figure it out. Finally i looked real close at the suspension, and he had sheared a bolt off. I dont know how long he was riding it like that but he never noticed it. Once we got the bolt out and replaced it, the track went on fine.
