I was telling friend about a website where they sell a "ski saver". Check out "Bergstrom skegs" though google. It's a plastic liner that goes in place of the metal bar on a Ez Steer system. My friend thought there might be other aftermarket people out there that offer something like this. Anyone try some of these?? The seem to makes sense---they lift the ski saving wear and tear, they also keep the ski from dropping into the "rut" made by the guy in front of you. I just hate darting and am willing to give up a little cornering ability not to have to go down a straight trail bobbing from side to side in cold, crusty conditions.

No, they're not skins.

Take a look at the website (I wish I knew how to post it here) use google and search "bergstrom skegs" and you'll find it--I think these make sense. Also, sounds like he has a quality wear rod too! Looks interesting, My wifes xc 600 darts from 20mph to about 50mph. I'd be willing to give up a little cornering for less darting. (I've checked ski alignment, let out the straps, and set the shocks softest.)

The spring on the front of the skid is used to control ski pressure. It is easily adjusted to control exactly what you are taking about. You are looking to increase the tension on that spring to achieve the results you are looking for. That will transfer some weight, now being carried on the skis, to the front of the skid. That adjustment is something of a compromise. You have to decide what you like/need. I always say I can get used to the darting, but not a front end I can't trust/pushing in the twisties.....

Early in the season, when the trails are struggling to achieve a decent base, you can use a little more ski pressure in preperation for the icy corners. As the season progresses, and you find you are riding on a good base most of the time, you can back off a little. FWIW

My wife had the same problem w/ her 600 xc. I put on woody's duallies and now she loves it. Eliminates darting unless you follow someone else w/ them. IMO

Thanks guys. I was bored one night and actually found someone selling some ski savers on E-bay. I got 9 sets for $15.00. They aren't the exact right ones but it looks real ez to drill new holes to match. I made a set to go under the ez steer. I also did a little research and see that the polaris plastic ski's on her 2000 anniversary XC is the exact same ski they use on later models. Apparently you can throw away the ez steer hardware and convert to normal polaris (or woody's dually) carbides. Who knows what will be out next year?? Her machine only darts at slower speeds. Unfortunately we ride alot in the woods and our style of riding in the past few years has gotten alot less aggressive. Will experiment with the front shocks and see what the ski savers do--also will consider the duallies!
