Hi all,
Having a problem with my 1980 panther. It seems that after running about 1-2 hours it just quits. It happened while riding and twice when idling, when I had been riding 2 hours (mayby got extra hot then?) This a fan cooled sled. I pulled the plugs and had no spark. Took it home and each time had spark in the morning. I bypassed the kill swith which was bad. It does not seem to be the throttle switch. Tried pulling all electrical connections and cleaning, tested iginition switch.

I saw that someone mentioned stator-not really familiar with how this works. What would cause this problem only when hot? Any other suggestions? How about the plug wires and boots when it gets hot? I have read that some sleds die if they overheat, would this apply to my fan cooled??

Don't know about the internal workings of the stator, but have you taken the flywheel off and inspected the wires under it? We had a '79 Scorpion Sting that would run for awhile and then lose spark, ended up being a burnt wire under the flywheel that would short out against the lighting coil after it warmed up. 1 to 2 hours is a long time to ride if you've got a shorted wire though, hope this helps. Also check for aluminum on the threads of your plugs when removed, this could signal overheating.
