Ok, I have a 99 Indy 500. A couple weeks ago I noticed the rear suspension was not rebounding all the way, it does rebound but very poorly and doesnt return to full height. Small bumps on the trails felt like mougals. My tail flap would drag on the ground while i was sitting on it. So I just tore out the suspension and have it laying on the shop floor. How can i find out whats causing the problems? Are there ways to find the bad shock or spring, or I am better off taking the front shock and spring and the rear shock completely out of the suspension and just bring them somewhere to get tested?

Mine are the same way, so this sumer I am adding the Xtra 10 suspension in it.

How is the shock action on the shock you have out? Is it hard to push in and hard to pull out? It might not extend on it own unless it is a high pressure gas shock. All the shock does is dampen the force of the suspension and it actually has not part in holding the machine up. If the machien is not coming close to full extension after a bump then you need to look at your springs and all your pivot points. Remove all the shafts and clean them of any rust etc and inspect for bent cross shafts. Take the springs out and get new ones or even better yet get heavier duty ones. If you shock colapses and extends easily with your hands then I say replace that also.

Snorat has pretty much got it covered. The only thing I can add is that in the frigid temps it's not uncommon even for a fully functioning suspension not to fully extend when you get off it. The cold will affect the shock action, and the snow and ice bind up the piviots.
