I Just got my Garmin 176C mounted, and did not have time for wiring it to the sled, so I decided to run off batt's for the trip I was going on this past weekend. The trails were wooped pretty bad and the gps started shuting itself off. I do not have batter saver on, and outdoor temps were high that weekend. Tried several sets of batt's and still had the problem. Has anyone else ran into this??? I'm kinda hopeing getting it hooked to the seld's power will solve this, but I might not get to ride again. I'm not sure if I need to talk to Garmin before the Warranty runs out, so I'm kinda concerened. Thanks.........

My eTrex does the same thing when running off the batteries and lots of vibration. I use the Garmin auto mount which includes a new battery cover for a mounting point. All the contacts look good, and it doesn't look like the batteries should be able to loose contact but somehow it does. When it's hardwired I don't have that problem.

Your batteries are loosing contact. The fix is to hard wire and you wont have a problem. If you need to ride as is for now try taping the bateries together and stretching the springs out in the GPS itself to get max compression to hold them.

Thanks for the info guys. I feel a lot better now. I was having serious concerns that I might have a lemon gps on my hands. It will be hard wired shortly. SWRules

This was a reoccuring problem I was having with my GPS12. The batteries are loosing the connection for a split moment and shutting the gps down. Even when the 12v power cord is attached this happens. Garmin has this problem with numerous models and has a kit to fix the problem. IF you contact Garmin Tech service they will mail you the kit for the shipping costs. They don't make the kit for mine so I have pulled (expanded) the springs alittle and this seems to have fixed the problem.
