I wish it was that easy.

The best bang for your buck would be a clutch kit. Is that already done?

Yeah, go get your head planed. Don't worry about squish velocity or comp ratos. Bahhhhh, don't matter. Just take 'er in and whack 40 or 50 thou off!

polaris indy 500, you are not qualified to plug in a toaster let alone give mod advice.

On a more serious note, there are some gains to be had with porting/head mods on that motor. 10 hp or a little better with good work.

porting is also a love hate issue, make sure if you do get it done its by some one who knows what there doin, i know a guy who spent thousands to get his old indy 650 to beat is brothers thunder cat 900, and when youd lay into it it would scream!!! he had it ported and the heads worked, but aperatntly they over ported it so when you where say cruisin at 40-60 it would end up backfiring and blow the damned carb right of the engine, didn't matter what he did, tightened up the boot as much as he could n boom off comes the carb, as soon as he wasn't wot boom there goes the carb again and it was always the recoil carb, they tryed switchin carbs same thing, evantually he pulled the motor apart and the ports where bigger on that cyl. then the other to, evan after he brought that up to the comp. (not sure witch one) they said it had nothing to do with the port job, it was either a carb prob or timing, he finally scrapped the motor bought his bros thunder cat

I'm assuming your talking about Bill Cudney? Great guy, excellent choice.
Hang on when he's done, and let us know the results.
