Just about ready to put her away for the summer, and already thinking what I should do to get it ready for next winter. Took madsledhead's advice on clutching and hoping to install the tempa-flow for next winter. Has anyone installed these before...how hard is it?

As for carbs madsledhead said to change to 45 pilots (stock are 40), not doubting just want to find out for my own knowledge the reason and benefits of doing this.

Lastly figure its time to change bearings in chaincase and clutch side on jackshaft and driveshaft. Is there anything else I should check for while doing this? Thanks for your help!!!

if your going to be replacing the bearings, you might as well check all the bearings in the idler wheels, grease up the suspention, back off the track, fill the gas tank to the top, get some fuel stabile, run her through and fog the engine. i my self dont fog the engine as i start my sled probly once a week in the summer, by winter i have a half tank lol but the more you start the sled the less chance you have of the carbs gumming up,

as for the pilots the only thing i can figure is to clear up a low end bog, (if its the same jet im thinking of any way)

p.s once the driveshafts out, its a good time to make sure its straight and wether or not its twisted, also a perfect time to go over all the clips on the track, replace any missin studs, or put in studs

HI,

Hows the sled pullin with that spring?

Hope she's a little more enjoyable.

Getting back to the pilots, I ended up going back to the 40's this season due to a couple of factors.

Last season I was running the tempaflow at about a -30F setting AND I was running a DG triple pack silencer - average ridding temp was about -30 to -40

This year I went back to stock silencer due to new exhaust laws and decided to jet a little richer, -20 setting on the tempaflow, very mild winter as well.

with all these factors I had to run the 45's at 3-1/2 turns out to re-gain the cripsness I had with the silencer - so I went back to the 40's at about 1/2 turns.

When I was running at full modded, I was getting a little hesitation off the line, but with the silencer off and a new tempaflow setting I had to jet the pilot down.

You want my advise on what mod for next year - TEMPAFLOW - best bang for your buck!

good luck!

Thanks Madsledhead,

That EPI yellow did make a noticeable difference. Quite happy with it. I am looking at getting the Tempa-Flow for next winter, hope it makes a similar difference. Thanks for the reply on the pilots much appriecated!

I told you my set up that I had on my 97 XCR600se and that sled rocked. Without spending a ton of money or time. Trust me, I tried many a combo in gearing and clutching to get the most out of the stock motor. Chad Erlandson was a big help, so I cant take all the credit. Heres my recipe:

Primary - EPI silver (165-300) it pulls harder than the yellow.
Weights - stock 54 grams
Secondary - EPI QA-2 helix for everyday riding. EPI yellow spring in hole #3
" " - Polaris R-11 (45-36) for draggin. Polaris silver/blue in hole #2
Belt - Stock Polaris 066 top cog. You want less slip for draggin, then the 067.
Gearing - Down 1 tooth on top (20 tooth) from stock 21.
Jetting - Down 2 sizes from stock for the mains. Needle clip in the middle. #3
(Syncronize the carbs!!!)
Air box - Stock!! Dont dick with it.
Studding - I had 144 chisel tooth studs.

I tried a DG silencer and lost 200 rpms up top. The pipes that are on the sled flow way to much, so by adding a silencer that flows even more air than the stock muffler, its a lose-lose situation. Dont waste your money on one. I also had V-force reeds that really woke up the throttle response and a set of Hot Seat heads that really didnt do much more than the stock heads. This set up worked super on hard pack or ice. It would spin at 8300 rpms all day. In the soft stuff, the sled was too heavy to pull any good anyway. I weigh 195 lbs. and smoked many a sled with this set up. 600's and some 700's in the day.
