Should I unhook the battery or just leave it? Manual doesn't say anything about it, so I was going to do nothing. I am storing it in my garage.

Also, this is a boneheaded move...I accidentally got some wd40 on the brake rotor. :( How do I clean it off properly? Brake cleaner?

I don't know the answer to your battery, but as far as the wd40. I would leave it until next fall, and spray it down with brake cleaner. Its there now, won't hurt anything.

the newest issue of Supertrax says to pull the ground wire and put tape around it.
they had a nice little summerizing article in there.

I read that article, it was good. I have always removed my battery and left it on my work bench. This way I can keep up on fluid level and charge it up every few mths without digging the sled out of the corner.

Anybody start there sled's during the summer months?Or do ya's just let them set until snow flies?

Personally I would wipe the WD40 off the rotor for fear it soaks into the pads. Brake cleaner should do the job. Disconnect the battery and charge periodically, I would agree with that. Me, I install fuel stabilizer but still fire the sleds up once a month. Love that sound :D

Luckily the WD40 didn't get near the brake pads. I did wipe it off, but I will spray with brake cleaner and wipe again.

Also, I think that I will disconnect the battery. It won't mess up the CPU programming will it.

I think that I am going to start it up several times this Summer, I like the sound and the smell. Its in an accessible place anyway. Nothing better than a cold Bud, 90 degree weather and a running snowmobile in the middle of Summer. Nothing better except the first significant snowfall of the year and riding around the neighbohood, or the first trail ride of the year.

I'd pull the battery and store it some place cool and dry to reserve voltage. Same idea as putting new house batteries in the fridge till needed. Do not leave the battery on a cement floor. For some reason they go dead extra fast. Should be on a shelf or piece of wood. I would buy stabalizer and run it through the engine real well. No fogging SDI's Big No No. SCrews up the sensors. I never run mine over the summer. Just leave it stored with .5 gal of fuel.

You can also buy the Fitch Drop-Ins and no stabalizer is needed for storing. Cost is around $50. Last for like 2000 gas fills or something...

Don't know about the battery but some vehicles need the battery for some sort of memory logic.

However get the WD40 off right away with brake cleaner or Acetone as you don't want that stuff to migrate into the pad. It will promote increased wear on the pad causing pre-mature replacement.

sdi storage, right from the shop manual

be sure to add fuel stabilizer before starting the engine.

engine internal parts must be lubricated to protect them from possible rust formation during the storage period.

start the engine and allow it to run at idle speed until the engine reaches operating temperature.

stop the engine.

remove air silencers to spray storage oil into each carburetor/THROTTLE BODY bore.

re-start engine and run at idle speed.

inject storage oil untill the engine stalls or until a sufficient quantity of oil has entered the engine(approximately half a can).

with the engine stopped, remive the spark plug and spray storage oil into each cylinder.

crank slowly 2 or 3 revolutions to lubricate cylinders.

re-instsll spark plugs.

*only do this procedure in well ventilated area*

i dont fog my sled just start it up once every couple weeks, never had any problems.

Why not fog it? That way there is no chance of anything rusting, and its put away for the entire summer....??

Fuel stabilizer and fog the engine, put it away and run it when the snow flies. 25 years in the high arctic and no problems!!! w00t

Also FILL the gas tank (but not so full as to cause it to overflow when the temps get high - speaking from experience!). Otherwise condensation will form. I use premium with stabilizer since the octane will drop over the summer. I don't start mine either since I drain the floats but that isn't an issue with the SDI. If you don't want to fog your SDI, I'd buy those dessicant plugs that pull the moisture out - you just install them where the spark plugs go and be done with it.
