Hello,

I have a chance to pick up a 1999 ZRT 600 for a really good price, sled is clean and well maintained. Anyways, I am looking for opinions on ride quality and performance.

Specifically, Are there any issues to check on this machine?

How does this sled run down in the lower RPM's

Any info on this sled would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Great sled period!!. It will not be "Torquey" like a 2 lunger but it will have an awsome mid range and top end. It weighs a bit more than the twin motor sleds but the trade off is more power and better ride quality. The baby triple will greatly benefit with some mild clutching and proper jetting. Other than that there are no issues with the sled. Some people keep bringing up the motor mounts breaking. That was on the old 95-97 models. The air box is also a little restrictive on the 99's. Unless you plan on tricking out the motor leave the air box alone. You will not benefit from "gutting" it as it will only make more noise and mess with your jetting.
Overall it is a great trail and lake sled not a ditch banger. You will have a most excellent time on that machine.
Good luck and great choice!! :p

A lot of people on here have talked about how it was the quickest 600 they had ever rode,,,, nice throttle response and an overall real quick sled

Yup they are a great sled, my cousin has one (for sale with only 1800 miles  ) . The newer chasis handles great on the trails and the 600 engine is a very strong runner. Lots of mid and top end power and it is no slouch on the bottom end but they aren't as quick out of the hole as a twin. Overall a very excellent sled and my brothers old 2000 ZRT 600 has almost 6000 miles on with no problems and still running strong. You wont be dissapointed with it.

I think, if you look hard enough, you will find the triples come out fo the hole just as hard if not harder than a sled with an equivelent engine of the same displacement in twin cylinder form.

I found the ZRT800 has better ET's than the ZR800 across the board, as well as the ZRT 600's being quicker to the 660' mark than the XC600 and ZR600's.

The Twins hook better out in your normal riding situations out of the hole, but when there is a sanctioned event, let say on grass, where studs are used, triples come out harder. The torque curves of the triples are much flatter, and more torque that is used over a spread of RPM's, will get you moving quicker.

True, since I have only compared them on trail conditions, my experiences is that the twin will come out of the hole better. Be it a ZR 600, EgdeX 600 they'l both get a little jump on the ZRT. Though IF you can get the triple to hook up it'll be along side of the twin.
If I can get my 800 to hook up and the odd time that it does I can normally be within 1/2 sled legth of my brothers F7. Thats with a brand new belt on the 800 and a belt with almost 1000 miles on the Firecat  .

I agree with the others (for the most part). However, I would add a Power Breather, not leave the airbox stock (like somebody else said). I also disagree that the ZRT is quicker than a ZR in 660'. I have owned both. If you are comparing it to a stock pre-valve ZR6, then the ZRT is quicker, but against a valver, the ZR should beat it in 660' every time. But in a long race, the ZRT will stomp the ZR, being good for about 10mph more on top end.

Heres what I found for shootout times.

ZRT600 (1999) 660' ET 7.795 @ 86mph
ZR600 (2001) 660' ET 7.973 @ 82mph

These were the best ET's and highest mph's I could find for any year ZR's and ZRT's

:withstupid: The newer chasis is great, just to bad cat detunned them a little bit :whatever: . If your after a triple sled madsledhead you can't go wrong with the baby zert and if its for a good price and clean sled you wont be dissapointed.

That doesn't mean anything. The speeds at the shootout vary tremendously from year-to-year, due to different conditions. I have owned a number of ZR's and one ZRT6, and I have many friends who own them. I think my own experiences are worth more than some dirt runs in New York, taken on different days

Saying that they "detuned" them makes it sound like they intentionally slowed them down. The restrictive airbox was a result of trying to quiet the noise levels.

FYI, the ZRT800's also take the ZR800's all the way to top end.
