After 4 years on a Classic 500 1999 Touring and 4500 miles, I just took a big jump and bought an 03 800XCSP with 812 miles on it.The owner lives in Atlanta -Georgia and leaves it up here at his brothers.Comes up once a season to ride and home he goes.He traded it in on a new atv.The sled looks like it just was uncrated but to be honest, I haven't ridden an 800 and would like some helpful hints on what to expect riding this beast. It has the electric start/mechanical reverse and no studs.I was told to go with 96 pics but others say 144!! My dealer is doing an update on the CDI box and a rejet kit that supposedly is needed with this update. Also hes putting on a boost bottle but he says it does improve mileage and low end????Didn't really need an 800 but the price was right and as a few others here on SW motto is::::: Go Big Or Stay Home!!! Thanks to all that will reply. Pete

You'll need 192 studs to keep the power to the ground. Get a clutch kit and some rejetting and you'll be go to go. I would pass on the boost bottle and get some Delta 3 reeds, it's a better mod for the bucks.

Skip the boost bottle, better for the small blocks. Run a minimum of 144 studs. Clutch it heavy and jet it right for temps. It will move!!

P.S Forget the reeds too unless you pipe it.

Thanks! Its 144 studs to start and no boost bottle until I ride it a few miles to see if anything is needed but seems all the guys who repiled have said the same things so I gotta go with experience!! Thanks again.

A boost bottle is a rather cheap mod, I don't know why you wouldn't get it, they are what like $50?

its $50 dollars you can save because, especially on an 800, they dont do anything.

Tifa- yes thats what I have heard from quite a few other 800 owners. The bottles are like $30 but have heard some of them due to vibrations, the bottle can crack the carb boots and after hearing from amny 800 riders, they all have said it wasnt necessary and a couple have said they have actually lost some top end using them. Its an easy install later on if needed but seeing I have never had an 800 before, will listen to those who do have them.Thats why SW is such a great forums.
