: If you think your sled goes 120 mph your wrong

Sharkey 04-16-2002, 01:11 AM Those would be 1000ft speeds in Minnesota *what was the temp 65 degrees fahrenheit or what. And radar guns can lie, quite a lot actually. they need to be tuned frequently, and sleds are harder to pick up on radar than cars. Was this run on snow pack and not bare ice or what? http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif
Sharkey 04-16-2002, 01:13 AM Asphalt stock 800 triples have bee over 120mph *in 1320ft for years now! http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif
revrnd 04-16-2002, 01:14 AM I'm not disputing the results, but radar guns have to be calibrated with a tuning fork (don't ask I don't know) *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif I can remember reading in Hot Rod back in the late 70s or early 80s an article about radar & how the guns work. I've heard in the past how such & such a sled went so fast. It had to be right because it had been checked with radar. How well are they looked after? Between weekends are they tossed behind the seat of a pickup?
If radar is so accurate, why do most drag racing sanctioning bodies use timing lights?
paul yarek 04-16-2002, 01:17 AM what i like is the fastest sled. *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
midnight screamer 04-16-2002, 01:29 AM Ya, at the radar run I raced in this season, my buddy did 103 mph with his 98' MXZ 500. *He never made it that fast EVER. *One of the other sleds we raced that day, an open mod 400, made it's best speed that day too. *We believe the gun was off.
revrnd 04-16-2002, 01:41 AM 84 mph out of a MXZ 440F http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif Is that possible? The magazines have always said it's the slowest of the 3 440 fans. I wonder how fast the AC & Polaris sleds are *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Raider Rider 04-16-2002, 08:55 AM The improved stocK sleds where very fast the Mach z was over 130 mph and there was a t-cat that ran 140 mph.The speeds i posted where stock sleds.I seen old forge shoot out results and a stock mach z went 107 in the quarter.Asphalt racing is totaly different everything rolls a little easier and nhra uses timming equipment just for that the time, drag racing is all about ET.I will post the link to the site later.
Snow Monkey 04-16-2002, 10:40 AM http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif My sled will do over 120! http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
Rocketman 04-16-2002, 01:33 PM Oh yeah! I put a cat speedo on mine and it hit 145 mph in 660ft! http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif
jwheeler 04-16-2002, 01:40 PM http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/withstupid.gif
machz69 04-16-2002, 04:26 PM lol...... yeah your rite: with those speeds they are kinda close for running snow. *but i did do 119mph on ice no footage just go as long as u want and i have hit 122 mph in a 1/4 mile asphalt .......all stock machzr 2000 http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
performancex 04-16-2002, 05:25 PM I'd trust an uncalibrated beaten-up radar more than the speedo an any sled any day on any surface.
Machzzzz1 04-16-2002, 05:49 PM I trust gps. *Radar has problems somtimes but 99% of the time its right. *Speedos on the machines are just for decoration once your passed 130km.
speed150 04-16-2002, 11:14 PM http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I've done over 158 mph in 1000ft. with my 1050 skidoo.
HP&Torque 04-16-2002, 11:51 PM Performancex is right!! *speedo's are kind of window dressing, I have been around a few radar guns and they were all very accurate,, also they CAN pick up a sled from at LEAST a 1000' away, and you can see the speed build as they fly past you http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif *also *if there is a groug of sleds 3 to 6 sleds or so racing, towards the gun, the gun will pick out the sled going fastest,,,
IndySKS 04-20-2002, 09:00 AM Sleds can be a bit tricky to pick up on the radar gun , some people try to hold it free hand rather than resting it or having a tri-pod. We have found the results very inacurate if held free hand. Our club holds a radar run every year on a 1320 foot ( 1/4 mile ) snow track . The results are posted on my web page at *http://www.sciencehilldrifters.com/ * * (click on club events ). We checkthe calibration of the gun regularily with the tuning fork and even checked it out against a gps once , it was very close. *I think a lot of different speeds reported are because of different track lenghts and ground conditions , we have never seen a sled do 130mph in a 1/4 mile on our track. Hey it's all just for fun any how .
skidoo800ca 04-30-2002, 11:04 AM You may want to check out *http://www.geocities.com/sled4713/main.html *and click on the any of the results at the bottom.
This track is 2000ft, gun is on a tripod, and many people break 120.
Mikadoo 05-02-2002, 08:41 PM You cant go as fast in Canada because the alitude is higher!
Heheheheheheh http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
performancex 05-03-2002, 02:18 PM I'm on the Laurentian Divide I think I'm higher up than you Canucks!
sledcrazy 05-11-2002, 10:30 AM he must be talking like a 20ft or something.. lol.
Formula500 07-08-2002, 09:25 PM Il gues the sleds can be tricky to measure with laserguns, like motorcycles are, but if they get a measurement, it will be the speed. Otherwise the gus shows zero in the display..or?
Frostbit 07-08-2002, 10:04 PM I am finding this hard to believe. It just don't look right.
phazerhater 07-08-2002, 10:25 PM Wow, this is an old one brought back to life from the dark depths of the archives.... http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
