: When Selling Sled
JasonF 03-28-2004, 09:55 PM I'm going to be selling my 02 MXZ 700 and was wondering what everyone thinks is better when selling a sled? Usually when I look at a used sled the first thing that catches my eye is any mods that were done, this usually makes me wonder about the owner and maybe his/her riding habits. Now I'm stuck trying to decide if I should return my sled to stock or leave as is, I have done nothing to the motor, but have added a 1.25 Ripsaw track, put 2" riser in, and added J hooks to both sides. I have also changed many of the color accesories to yellow, but this should have no affect. Another reason for the question is that used sleds these days are selling for quite a bit under blue book, and a person would pretty much expect to give away these items with the sale. So I guess my main question would be, what would be a easier sell, stock or upgraded?
puree 03-28-2004, 10:06 PM I have always left them as is,,,, unless I had another sled that the mod would fit on and I knew I wanted it on that sled,,,,,
ZR Sled Head 03-28-2004, 10:07 PM IMHO it would sell easier with the extras you've listed BUT no your not gonna get a dime for them. The used market is flatter than flat.
Rick.
sledhed17 03-28-2004, 10:20 PM :withstupid: :withstupid: being that they are not engine mods, which would be time consuming maybe even impossible to undo(like porting..lol) , i wouldn't worry about it
phat_cat800 03-28-2004, 10:31 PM I agree and say you might as well sell it as is, unless you want the Ripsaw track on your next sled. Like Rick said though you wont get much if anything for any of the accessories you have added to the sled.
The Hossman 03-28-2004, 10:46 PM I tend to steer away from modded machines, even though (in most cases) the mods don't necessarily make them less reliable. But, as stated above, it does indicate how the machine might have been ridden. In my eyes, bone stock is probably worth MORE money... I certainly wouldn't pay more for 'extras'....
But, that's just one man's opinion.
RacerX408 03-28-2004, 10:47 PM like u said jason, if i bought another sled it would have to be stock cuz if it has a bunch of engine mods done to it then that usually means this sled has been ridden fairly hard. that's the first thing i look for. some things such as the track would make it more appealing to some people tho. tough call.
FishHog 03-29-2004, 08:49 AM To me, engine mods take away. Your mods will be fine, probably help with selling, but like it was said above, probably won't add to the selling price.

newfiebyblood 03-29-2004, 10:25 AM don't think that it well get u anymore but should help with the selling of the sled, some people would think that it is less for them to do themselfs
drift_jockey 03-29-2004, 11:22 AM I'd leave the acc. on just because it makes it more flashy and might be easier to sell....JMO

Engine mods or not, every sled is rid'in hard. I always LMFAO when I see this saying. Can anyone on here honestly say they dont beat the snot out of their sleds? I didn't think so
Back to the question, your cosmetic add on's may or may not help to sell like one guy may love them and another thinks it looks like crap. If the buyer doesn't want to pay a little extra for them then tell him you are going to put it back to original and sell them outright and see what happens.
It's like my Flll, the buyer is going to pay extra for the longtrack conversion the triple pipes the rebuildable gas shocks and the precision skis or they will get nothing more than a bone stock factory Flll 800............
im taking mine off now who is going to help me remove all the studs lol
ecopter 03-29-2004, 11:33 PM Mikadoo,
I don't beat my sled. I also don't beat my cars, SUV, lawn mower, bicycle, weed eater, snow blower, or any other engine driven device. I guarantee who ever buys my snowmobile when I decide to sell it will be getting one damn fine machine.
I'm fairly certain not everyone on here "beats" their machines.

Mikadoo 03-30-2004, 07:18 PM Jon, not picking on you in particular I just have to laugh when I see someone advertizing their sled QUOTE, "never been raced" I know of no one that doesn't drag their buddy's [a lot] or beat down those rough trails at high speeds, climb hills and do some jumps. This is like the old saying " the car was drove by a little old lady" hahaha!
This is what snowmobiling is all about for 90% out there. I do all of the above and my sleds are always in top condition. The only kind of sled that I would never buy is a cross country sled that has been "raced" as they take an unbelieveable amout of beatings.
team old iron 03-30-2004, 08:15 PM I don't beat my sleds, I drive them the way they are meant to be driven
i always leave the mod on unless my next sled can use that mod. or its a mod that i can sell for extra cash. some mods, certian people dont care about and wont pay extra for it. so i just take them off and sell it seperatly.
ecopter 03-31-2004, 01:32 AM Fair enough, Mik.

JasonF 04-01-2004, 10:04 PM Like most of you said, you cant really expect to get any more for the sled with the extras. I've got a friend that is interested in the track so I think I'll pull it off and put the factory one inch back on, might as well get a few bucks for it instead of giving it away, plus it only takes a couple hours to swap it out. As far as the riser/hooks and cosmetic items, I thing I'll leave them, not worth the time to pull them off and try to sell them separately.
Mikadoo is right, everyone definitely pushes their sled to the max at one time or another, but this is much less important than what kind of maintenance the person does when their not riding.
