A few weeks ago, sawman and I got the bright idea to have one last ride ...... last week end in March. We originally booked New Liskeard, planning to ride North. The snow moved further north. We then booked Kirkland Lake to ride north. The snow moved further north.

"Screw it ..... we're driving to Cochrane" was our last communication to each other on Wednesday March 24th. The forecast was for warming temps and rain but we crossed our fingers and drove up on Thursday, knowing that weather forecasters don't know sh**.

Well, it rained a little Thursday nite, a little more Friday a.m. but then ...... like a sign from God (or Corey) the temps dropped and it actually started to snow!! (just a little) There was lots of base so off we went to Smooth Rock. We passed (and were passed) by other groups doing the same thing which was truly fortunate cuz Tempest ... (better half of sawman) decided to check the snow depth. Not with a stick, or by walking in, but by doing this ............

Tempest ..... "I figger the snow is THIS DEEP!!"

The next day (Saturday) we headed to Fraserdale and the Canyon. It's a fair distance (94 miles) so we stopped along the way for a snack. It was about 4 celcius by this time, the trail loosened up and it was an absolutely gorgeous ride!!

Here's a shot of sawman checking his weenie ...... actually, Tempest had packed some red hots and cheese, get your minds out of the gutter!!

This is a shot of the trail to the north, and one of the groups that had just passed us.

A while later, we were passed by some strange man in what could only be described as a "very bright ski doo over coat" That could only be CRAZY B we all thought, and as we came around the next bend .... sure enough........ there he was, buried to the belly pan.

Yes, there was still lots of snow.

A little futher up the trail, we ran into Fraz and his group ........ we all stopped and had a nice chat. It was a beautifull day for a SW re union.

Other than a few minor incidents ..... we made it to the canyon relatively unscathed. While there, we (and a few others) went back into the canyon with the Snowtrax entourage and took a few shots. Here's SW's own dahmer (Jeff) from the world famous JR's in Cochrane, climbing one of the countless hills.

Here are some of the on lookers, and some SnowTrax folks, checking out the action. It was a hollow between to very steep hills, sometimes there was too much going on to take it all in. Ask Crazy B about that ......

Nice pics Mike!!

I was hoping for one more pilgramage north this year myself, but I fear that it's all but over....

Oh well, there's always next year.

Mike, I believe I have a picture of you "checking the snow depth" also. I just have to work on figuring out how to post it!
I believe the only one of us who did not have an "incident" as Mrs. D calls them was Shelley. I have a picture of Sawman's poo getting loaded beside the $65,000 Tcat, but I wasn't fast enough with my camera for Mrs. D's incident.

Mike, did you see any wildlife up there? On the way up we saw what was left of a moose after the wolves had gotten it. Heading home I saw a lynx on the trail. It didn't stick around long enough for a pic.

Actually ... there was more "wildlife" in the bar after the ride ........ what a panic. As for reeal animals on the trail I saw a squirrel :dazed: and either a marten, mink or whatever .... not quite sure. Didn't see the moose remains

I'm not sure if long tracking the sled is the answer. It might inspire a false sense of ability. I seem to recall digging out a long track sled a few times in the north country this season. Yes, I do have pictures!!! LOL w00t

B, you should have seen him playing in a bowl just south of Whitney on DP's sled on our way to Lake St. Peter. Sue Ann was worried that her kitchen project just went out the window.

The good news is the kitchen plan is now officially gone!! The plan now is to pick up a longer covered trailer, long track the '03 Rev, and when the time comes for another sled (2yrs?) Sue-Anne will take the stretched Rev and I'll order a 'gade .... I really LOVE my wife. :inlove:

Then comes the long arduous process of trying out for Team Renegade .... I hear the initiation ritual is hell! :D

All right I want a shoot at "Team Renegade" next year. Were and when?
Maybe we should plan to ride to Fraserdale next March via the Island Falls trail from Smooth Rock then break trail along the power line to the gas in Fraserdale. That or just an off trail ride around Cochrane for a day.
