you can always make a weld where its grooved and see a machinist to bring it back to bearing size.

Are there any tool & die shops or good fabrication shops in your area? My brother overtightened the chain & the jackshaft also had a groove worn in it. He got it spray welded (not stick or TIG) & then center ground on a cylindrical grinder back to the original diameter.

I would also think you could get that pretty cheap at a sled salvage yard,,, do a search on the net for sled salvage yards and start calling them to see what you can come up with,,,,

A good welder should be able to build back up the jackshaft where its worn down. Then its up to you (or the welder) to grind that baby back down so the bearing fits snug as a bug.

My F111 had play in the brake rotor. Found the keyway was worn - so I go the key welded in, and took my mini grinder and whittled it down so the rotor fit back on. It only took 30 mins and total cost was about 2 dollars for new key stock... oh the welder was free - except for a couple beers.
:D

I think when you're dealing w/ a diameter that a bearing is being pressed on you want it round. I don't think the fit would be great if you just took a 4" right angle grinder to the weld.

Just my 2 cents.

check some other places,,,look in the back of your magazines, if he is charging an arm and a leg, you may be able to get it cheaper elsewhere with shipping and handling included.

Al's Snowmobile isn't bad. Go to google and put in used snowmobile parts. I think there's some search engines out there just for this kind of thing! Good luck!

My only experiance with Als was that the part arrived and it was in good shape,,,, (choke cable for vmax),,,, charged me 20$ for the cable, then charged me 22$ for shipping and handling,,,,,
Postage was less than 5$, so they chared me over 17$ for handling,,,

If they wanted 37$ for the part, they should have quoted me 37 instead of 40,,,,

do your google search, I would bet you can find a better price,,,

central snowmobile, sunnyview, theres lots of them out there

honestly, if thats all thats wrong with it,,,,and it isnt expensive to fix,,,, and your not strapped for cash,,,why dont you fix it and keep it as a back up sled. I have a couple backups here myself because when we actually have snow on the ground here, I dont have time for breakdowns,,, I can fix breakdowns when the snow is gone,,,,

The guys are correct with the weld and grind down the shaft idea as I just finished yesterday the same thing on my 82 yammy ss440 fan when the bearing braket gave its life my for amusment and broke.
The fix of the shaft was an easy one and was accomplished in about an hour. One suggestion though, use a dremel to do the finish grinding as it is much easier to control how much material you are removing and get a better fit for the rotor.
As for me I had to cut out the bearing braket as well and weld in a new section.

Tip: The bolt on bearing brackets off of a A/C bearcat works perfectly: just hold bracket up to chassis, trace and cut chassis and weld bracket in place and Walla!

I know it sounds a lil complicated but its really easy (If ya know how to weld or know somone who does. This is my fun project sled that I always ride and get worked over prettygood. You all might be interested in the project that is currently being done to the sled.Yesterday me and a bro was a lil bored and had a couple beers and put the 136" track and suspension off a A/C bearcat under the sled. Talk about easy to do, just cut off 1/2" off all for mounting shafts and it bolted right on, of course there is a lil tweakin to be done to get proper tension on the track; ie loosen front retaining strap to lower front of slide level to ground. move uper road wheels back a lil. but plenty of room in the tub for it and its got travel! woohoo, no more kidney pains!

More on the track project l8tr and I will even upload some pics of it to show how easy it was. I will prolly have to gear a lil stiffer but good trade for the ride.
good luck fixin your sled.
