Do any snorkling or SCUBA diving? I would like to see some also--Maybe take some pictures next time they run into you.

Knotty Woodworker
05-13-2004, 10:46 AM
krellheat, ...no snorkling here, the water is way too cold. People scuba dive here, but it's expensive to get into. No problem, next time I go I'll try to remember to take my camera and get some nice pics of the whales.

Did I mention that we have some HUGE icebergs here as well? People automatically want to touch the icebergs, but sometimes you might see a piece crack off the size of a bus and fall six stories to the ocean, ...wouldn't want to be underneath it (or even near it). Here's one next to a big schooner.

Here's a web site from a guy here in eastern Newfoundland who owns a sea-kayaking business. Check out his photo gallery (gallery 2 is the best) and his video clips.
http://www.wildnfld.ca/

Here's another link from a Newfoundland photographer, ...lots of iceberg and whale photos.

Thanks for the link. Very nice pictures indeed. I scuba dive off Cape Ann Massachusetts in the winter for scallops and in the summer wrecks and lobster :inlove: (the kind that fight back with claws).

Water temp in February maybe be a balmy 30 degrees. Saltwater starts to freeze at 28 degrees. Air temp is usually in the high teens. Of course I dive dry - using a DUI drysuit. They are self donning. see www.dui-online.com

Thanks again for the pictures.

krellheat, ...I updated my post above with a nice iceberg pic for ya.

05-13-2004, 11:48 AM
Big iceberg--there is a sailboat in the background. Did you take that picture?

Knotty Woodworker
05-13-2004, 12:00 PM
No I didn't take it, ..but I did see it a few times last year. It was about an hour drive away from my house. The thing was so big that when the wind blew inshore it felt like a cold winter wind (in the middle of the summer). Ya had to look at it from the inside of the car, too cold to step outside with shorts on.

I also do alot of hiking here along the shoreline, so I'll see if I can get some more iceberg photos in the next couple of months.
