2002 Pantera, 600EFI. Noticing alot of filings in the chaincase oil. I am told this is normal for sleds but not willing to accept this yet. *Any comments? Filings are wear. I guess the question is what is excessive. *I am surprised to see evidence on the dipstick, even after a change of oil and 300 miles later.

Powdery filings are O.K. on the dipstick, if you find any small chunks, then take it apart and inspect everything thoroughly.

The end of dipstick is magnetic to catch wearing materials. Make sure you keep tightening chain, as first 1000 miles is when it stretches the most. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Kenbar, just for kicks check your jackshaft bearings. *I had alot of shavings that I couldn't explain until I saw a groove starting on the gear side.I had a 98 ZR600 that had a bad bearing from the factory and caused alot of abnormal wear on the top gear. *Just something to consider. http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
