New here, got a question.Have a chance to buy a 95zrt800.How fast are they? Are they a good all around sled.Pretty new to the sport. This sled would be a replacement to a 97 Powder Extreme 600.How is the ride(suspension)The 600 caught fire.Thank you for any info :)

that 800 is real quick,,, gonna be a difference when comparing that to your 600. The 800 is gonna be a little heavier also, but the difference isnt going to be anymore than the difference between a full and empty tank of gas,,,, can you tell a difference when your sled is full and when its empty?? I personally cant.
I dont think your 97 had the updated suspension,,, But I am not positive of this. I thought some of the models got the newer suspension in 97 and the rest didnt happen till 98,,, Phat Cat can answer that one for you for sure.

If you can get a good deal on it,,, go for it,,, by the way,,,fires SUCK!!!

The top speed of the ZRT 800 is above 115mph and defintly faster then your powder special 600. The Powder extreme had for suspension but with it a 97 it would of had the long travel rear suspenion which the 95 wont have. Upfront the powder special would utilizes the AWS IV and I think the 95 zert only had AWS III (maybe somebody can verify this  ). Though they both use the same frame and chasis. IMO you will be going up in performance but down in ride comfort.

Phat cat thanks for the info.I am still going back and forth on this.Right now the Powder Extreme is toast. Not sure how much damage but got cooked pretty good.Didn't have the heart to look at it yet.Anyone have a rough guess on how much the ZRT800 is worth. It has about 3300 miles runs well, looks good.I may be able to pick it up for 1600.00 any thoughts???

if its in good shape, that isnt a bad price,,,, I would check your compression, and I would make sure the previous owner took care of it,,,, those are the 2 biggest in my book

According to Nada the average retail is about $2,500 and low retail is $1,900 but those seem kinda high prices. I would say $1600 is a pretty decent price, though you may be able to pick it up a bit cheaper with it being the off season and the seller wanting to get rid of it. Though if you are able to keep the Powder special you could either do an engine swap or upgrade the 95 suspenion with the 97's parts.

Sounds good thanks for the info.Didn't think about the swap but that may be an idea. :)

actually, swapping the suspension and track off the powder special to the zrt would make a big difference,,,, It definetly can be done, and I would bet it wouldnt be to hard to do either,,,, then you will have one mean moving machine.

what parts of the powder special are gone?? can it be put back together?? maybe that would be a cheaper route in the end,,,

It looks very much like what your sled looks like. The sled is is maine right now.We will be bringing it home this week then I will have a better idea.Pretty much all the wiring is melted and stuck to the carbs. The gauges got damaged.Did not look underneath. We were packing up to come home when it happened so we did not spend much time looking at it.The throttle cables are all melted,Some slight famage to the hood and headlight. We will try to resurrect it but will it ever be right I don't know.I not sure how much money we want to dump into it.It is to bad I had been searching for a 97 Powder Extreme for a while. It was neat because being white and also a triple it was an oddball.Just my luck :(I think I am going to pass on the 800 for now.The guy seems a little shady.I am not sure what my husabnd wants to do now the Powder was his sled.Maybe wait a month and see what turns up.

the main thing is compression, check that and overall appearance, IMO thats everything, if both of those are ok i'd buy it. :) SWRules THE WINGS ARE IN TROUBLE! :( :( :( SWRules

go with your first instinct,,,,,if it doesnt seem right, pass on it,,,there are plenty of sleds out there for sale,,,,
good luck with your search, and I would really look into repairing yours,,, you never know, how cheap you may get off doing that,,,,

Well I bought the ZRT800.It was in really good shape, ran good and I got it for 1400.00 :D The guy was a little weird but I got the green light from a friend. So I have a new sled. Not sure what I am going to do with the Powder right now but I have plenty of time to decide.

 Congrats on the new sled, sounds like you got a pretty good deal and with only 3300 miles you should still get many trouble free miles out of it. If you can keep the powder special and do the suspension swap I think you would have a great sled, you can always part out what is left of it. Do you have any pictures of your new sled :D

Can't wait for snow.!!We only had 1 good riding weekend up here in Maine.Rode almost for 3 days straight. My first ride in maine was my last ride. Then my powder extreme goes up in flames. It was not a good year up here for sledding.

good buy!! that's the worst thing about buying a sled in the spring. you have to wait sooo long just to try it out, well unless u wanna take it out on the grass. :D or water!!

Looks great catwoman  You only have 8 long, hot months before you will be able to ride your new sled. The 800 triple works great and noticeably faster then your Powder 600 was.

The only problems I had with my 95 is the water pump seal going and causing the counter balace shaft bearing on the mag side to seize and blow my whole bottem end (top and bottom cases), TWICE, in one winter. So take the time this summer to make sure yours is ok. It is one fast sled.

CATWOMAN,

Nice looking machine!! I've got a '97 ZRT 800, that I rebuilt and have been riding for the last 2 seasons. Hang on!! With a little tweaking, that machine is scary fast. I love mine..its great at sustained high speeds out on the lakes and rivers, and not bad on the trails either. A very stable sled, and the engine reels out endless power..I installed a roller cover on my driven clutch, and it is silky smooth in both power delivery and back shift. What part of Maine are you from????

Katrider ,I ride in Ripley. It is ride near Dexter.Somerset County area. Thanks guys for all the info.We just brought the Powder Extreme home.It got cooked pretty good.Think we are just going to use it as a parts sled for the 800.

To bad about the Powder extreme being severly burnt but I think with the newer suspension under the 800 zert you will have one great sled. You've got all summer to think about what to do though
