Hey guys, the sled is a 92 Indy 500 Efi. It's my watercross sled only and as most people know a water sled MUST be reliable.
This thing is giving me major balls. The old girl has been eating spark plugs steady, despite good comp and proper gas/amsoil mix.
Yesterday at the lake I was running the water for about 15 minutes. (I have a rad and an electric fan on the front so it never ever overheats). It then started running like crap and dropped the left side plug. I didn't have anymore extra plugs with me so I called it a day.
Tonight, the old girl wouldn't start and I traced the problem to the safety switch on the thumb throttle, you know that little pin switch. It was not seating fully because I think the thumb throttle is off another sled, so we just had it taped closed, but it appears like it had started to come out a bit and that made it not start. I don't know much about this switch but I assume it is a saftey feature for a stuck throttle.
I assume this switch only works open or closed, not like a proximity switch....correct?
Next, I pulled the switch out, cut the wires and left them unattached. It fired right up easier then ever. Now the sled starts easy, but as soon as you touch the gas it will start revving like a mad #####. The cable is 100% free and functions perfect. Head/base and throttle body intake gaskets are all good.
Anybody know where else to look?? Could it be tied to the TPS? The led on ECM is blinking diagnostic codes, anybody know how to check them?
