Hi!
Ive been checking around for snowmobilerentals in Ontario, planning for next years Sw-ride. What really suprised me was the awsome prices. For instance a marina in Gowganda takes 250CAD a day, and its not even a top-modell, and that dont include helmet or snowsuit, and of course not gas - neither oil. When I had overcome this first chock I suddenly discovered that there is a damage deposit on 2500 CAD - GOD DAMIT! I havnt checked around at other rentals but I guess its the same thing everywhere. I wonder how many can afford to rent a sled when u need to have that amount of cash in your hand. Am I the only one that that think this sucks?

I imagine most put the damage deposit down on a credit card...

If you will be in Canada for the SW ride the best place to rent from is in Kirkland lake Speedys is the name I think Unisoldier, and yes most folks put the damage deposit on their credit card. Speedys will give you a suit and the last rental we got from there they supplied the oil and helped my uncle out with the 3 belts he blew(newbie). Still cheaper then buying a sled or having one shipped here.

Hi Kim!
I was looking at the Kirkland lakes rental few days ago but there were no rates at their homepage. Maybe u know anything about the prices? And it also seams like it easyer to get to Kirland Lake than to Gowganda - I just take the Nortlander from Toronto up to Swastika and walk the last kms. From there its only a 3-4 hour ride to Cochrane. If there is more people that is gonna rent sleds in Kirkland Lake, maybe it possible to discuss prices !?

My misstake Kim. There were rates at their homepage - missed it before. 570 for 3 days is not too bad after all. I wonder how high the deposit is (not shown on the webpage).
By the way Kim, when is it possible to get a preliminary date on the sw-ride? I have to order my tickets in good time (aug-sept) to get a good price. C ya around

Hey Uni ....... before you go booking any Toronto accomodations, or transportation from Toronto to Cochrane, post here and see what happens. I for one would invite you to stay at my home and since I'm making the trip to Cochrane, offer you a lift. There are a few of us that are riding up to Cochrane from points south, maybe you could hook up with us from the rental location and ride up?

When you consider the abuse a snowmobile takes, the huge depreciation in value and the astronomical price of insurance it's no wonder the rentals are so high. It's getting hard to find a rental location further south.

For the last couple of seasons, BellevilleMXZ, myself, and another friend have hosted a party of my Dutch relatives and friends. Our first rental experience was in Kirkland Lake with Speedy's, which is a Joe Rentall franchise. All sleds were nearly new SkiDoo's and worked well, with one exception that was cleared up after the first day. The folks at Speedy's were great! Price was around $150 per day CDN, for 600 c.c machines. Last season we tried the Joe Rentall franchise in Timmins. The machines were Polaris and a few years old. We had several mechanical breakdowns, including several dry chaincases, and one broken crankshaft. The folks there tried very hard to keep us riding every day, but after a few days they literally became our daily Pit Crew, not the rental agency, that you should only visit at the start and end of your holiday. These sleds were about $150.00 a day for 600 c.c. machines. The Polaris dealer in Cochrane is also a Joe Rentall franchise for sleds. It's a challenge to find an area that has good and varied riding, serviced by an airport, and has rental sleds available. We've done it for the last two seasons and my first recommendation would be Kirkland Lake. Hope this helps!! :D
