On friday afternoon my Grandfather received a Silver Star for WW 2 . He had been waiting for it for 60 years and couldn't wait to get to Washington D.C. for the WW2 memorial . Well his health got to bad for him to go to Washington so they came to him at the hospital and he got his medal . A couple hours after receiving it he passed away . Unfortunely I had to watch him receive the medal on the 10 pm news because I was not told how ill he was . I guess what i'm trying to get at is I would like to thank every man and woman that has served this country . you know you are under appreciated , so God bless you and your families , Dan

you know what they say, love your freedom thank a vet ! i wonder how many people really do this? just look at Iraq, if you are gonna b###tch about your country or govt go over there i bet you would have a different view. so well said skidont you should be proud of him. :) SWRules [just my opinion of people who complain but really don't understand how good we really got it]

Thank You to all the vets out there....I know what you mean about not appreciating freedom, it pisses me off that people even have the thought in there mind to disrespect our country, this hits close to home knowing some vets and having a friend who is off to iraq in a couple months, and my girlfriends brother who enlisted for another 2 yrs and is leaving for Iraq in a month.....it just chokes me up to think i may never see my best friend again, but then at the same time i most definatly look up to him and cant thank him enough for wanting to fight for/protect our country.....

Skidont, glad to see he finally got his medal. It's nice to see him pass away like that (i.e. very happy).
A big THANKS to all the soldiers who fought for Canada/USA. You make us so proud to be a Canadian/American....
i think we all take our freedom for granted most of the time. Its great to be reminded and to appreciate the work that the vets did so our generation can live a better life.
I love how Nascar always pays tribute to the armed forces at the biggening of every race. It keeps us thinking and remembering.
