Here is one of 3 from Lake of The Woods last winter. It was 67 degrees this day and the 1.5 feet of snow on the lake turned into 2 inches of snow by the end of the day. All these plowed roads on the ice got flooded by the melting snow and were 2.5 to 4 feet deep. I would ride these water flooded roads all the way to shore (well over a mile long)......These roads had some tight turns you had to do and were a blast, but for some reason the girlie friend wouldnt try with her 98 zr600EFI

...how could the water be 4 feet deep when there is only 1.5 feet of snow on the ice?

i am like rws, wondering how the water could have been that deep. but the pics are really cool. good stuff. :D

Very easy, all the snow on the top of the ice runs onto the plowed roads....Plus the pictures are crappy but the plowed roads had high banks on both sides from the snow being plowed which kept the water in place. You also have to figure in the water on top of the ice melts the ice-especially when its moving from trucks and sleds driving on them (ice was 3 feet thick). There was a guy that was stuck earlier in the day with a 3/4 ton chev silverado that had water come in through the door jams and got his floor all wet. Anyways pictures dont lie, look at the pic of me slowen down.......that obviously is not 2 inches of water.

with any luck, we are gonna do some pond skipping possibly this weekend,,, good buddy wants to run his 81 trailcat 440 across,,,, the place we are skipping is probably 30 foot at the widest,,,,
will the 440 make it???? he is out to prove it will,,,, we will have it on tape,,, sink or skim!!!!

Make sure you post it, and if it is only 30 ft wide with a lil run he will be able to make it without any problem......I have videos where fourwheelers and even dirtbikes skipping that much water. And if no one believes that go rent the crusty demonds of the dirt videos!

dawg

puree i am going to put my money on the 440 making it. its only 30 feet. i just would get a good run at it, and he should wip right acrossed it.
atc, i have seen those videos of the bikes going acrossed water. pretty cool stuff.
puree, make sure you take the video or at lest a camera so we can see all the fun you are having. :D

slight miscalculation,,, its about 60 foot across and YES IT MADE IT,,,, the first time I screwed up the camera and we didnt get any video,,,, so we did it again and it worked very well,,, so he tried a 3rd time and tried a different angle then tried to turn in the middle and sank it bigger than day!!!!
How much water does the airbox on an 80 trailfire 440 hold??? answer, little less than a gallon.
It went down in about 8 foot of water,,,, we ended up pulling it out and got it all running though,,,, we will be putting video of it on soon,,,, both the good run and the not so good run,,,, my friend who did the running is also a member on here,,, his name is gone awol,,,,, I am sure we will be hearing from Marty real real soon!!!!!

BS...

The water on those plowed roads is at MOST 6 to 8 inches. If it was 2.5 to 4 feet deep as you claim the water would have to be as high or higher than the bank of snow pushed up by the plow...impossible.

I have a couple,,,, one of the good run and it turned out pretty good,,, one of the bad run, one of us pulling it out and one of him taking off on it again after getting it running,,,,
he wants to play with them a little, but I may post the good run fairly soon,,,, it actually turned out really good,,,,,

RWS, in some spots there wasnt even ice. BTW how would you lean and turn in 6-8 inches of water???? Also how would a 3/4 ton chev get stuck and get its floor wet off 6-8 inches of water. If you werent there you dont know.
All that matters to me was I did it, it was fun.

Well if you ride there you should know, since it was the last day there was snow on the lake this year. This pic was taken by Adrians Resort near the mouth of the Rainy River (where there was open water everywhere). Anything else you wish to contest Mr. I know everything? P.S. I dont see any pics of you on water........

Ya I wanna see more pics of blasting through culverts!!! As for me after sinking my gade i'm done with water skipping. It was my own fault.....going way too slow and down I went. Piped Bravo has lots of pics of this but I'm surprised that they havent surfaced yet!

I don't know about giving up on water? I dunked my Mach then two weeks later bought a REV and drove straight to the open water, skipped about 50 feet. Some may say it was stupid but then some may not. I think the biggest thing is if you ride lakes and you come across some open water not to panic, by skipping water it builds up a comfort level so when you do hit open water out of the blue, you just cross it. nuff said.

sexltsp, did you go through the culvert. that is a coll picture. it also lookes like you ar egoing real slow.

this picture is on 3 of use crossing. the middle guy was a little behind and he got soaked. LOL

I asked a simple question...what date were those pictures taken. My guess is you won't provide a date because just about everything in your original post is contestable...except maybe the thickness of the ice. Also...what does me not having water skipping pictures got to do with me challenging your claim the water was 4 feet deep on the plowed roads?

It was the last weekend that you could have fish houses on the lake, whatever that date was I do not know.....you can figure that out. Also I did not say it was a solid 4 ft I said 2.5-4ft meaning 4ft in some spots, but I guess your so quick to jump on people on here that you couldnt take the time to figure that one out huh. (if you look back in a previous post it says there were some spots where there was no ice-especially near shore.....Hence where the 4ft was). Any ice fisherman knows there is a build up of water on the lakes edges in warm weather, espcially near plowed entrances. Also the deeper spots (where there was no ice) there was warning signs for people to stay away.

Any other comments you have to try and make yourself sound smart fire away. I check this every day.

P.S. you must have a real exciting life if you spend your time looken for ways to crab out on people through this. If you need a friend turn to a bottle, jack my just help your situation out

ATC, cool pics!!! It's one thing to go across open water, but to follow a little "channel" like that has to be difficult. How many times have you dunked it making those turns? COOL!!

SEXltsp, that's just plain crazy!!!!! w00t

Ice houses were supposed to be off by March 31.

I do not "jump on" or "crab out" on people on this forum (you can check all my posts made on this board under my user name). Your post needed to be challenged because it was so obviously overstated...also note I never personally attacked you...only your statements. How about you?

2.5 to 4 feet of water on plowed road...
we've already covered that one...your pictures don't show it.

67 degrees melting 18" of snow down to 2"...
there were no 67 degree days in March as reported by the nearest station (Baudette) (temps out on the lake would also be a few degrees cooler than on land). Max temps on the weekend of March 27 and 28 was 43 and 46 degrees respectively with night time temps below freezing. The next weekend April 3 and 4 was 38 and 47 degrees respectively with nigh time temps below feeezing. Mid 40 degree days are not gonna melt heavy/packed snow down 16" in ONE day.

I'll let this rest now.

obviously the only way to prove it was you ,other than those cool pics of YOU DOING THE SKIPPING is for a jury to find you guilty ,dna reports,15 witnesses ,a notorized fuel receipt from the vicinity of the lake and maybe some pics of your still wet track :D did you get any impressions of your track on the water that day ? :bash:

great pics by the way

Great Pics.
Did it take awhile to get the turning down?

atc250rfoxusa
10-29-2004, 09:35 PM
BCthetwo, Turning in the water I found to be not much different then when in deep powder.....so if you can get that down its not very hard to cetch on.......Helps to slow down a bit when you go to turn, once your around the turn just open her up and get going again. If you ever go to watercross races you will hear the racers open and close their throttles real fast over and over as they go around the tighter corners - enables them to slow down a bit and that helps on the turning. Key thing to do is turn your skis the opposite way your going to turn and lean into your turn. Hope that helped.....good luck.
