I'm trying to get my hands on one fairly soon and I called a dealer today and these were both in my price range.

For the RMK they wanted $2400. It's an 800 but he said that the hood was cracked up on it but he has a replacement for it which comes with it. Having a cracked up hood does not sound good to me. Does it most likely mean it was wrecked?

As for the Indy XLT SP he said it has a short track on it (which I guess is what the SP means). They wanted $1500 for it. It's a '95. He didn't mention any body damage to it. The only thing that does not sound good about this one is the short track on it. I definitely need a long one for riding here. I think it's a 600 also.

What you guys think? I'm going to go look at these on Saturday (tomorrow). I want to be armed with some info before I make go, as to common problem with these models, or the specific model year.

Both of them sound to be in normal price range. As far as the hood being cracked up, I wouldnt worry about it to much. They are easy to crack. Doesnt take much of a wreck to crack them. MAKE SURE and look at the frame (bulkhead and tunnel) of it and look for bends or crinkles. Look at the trailing arms and where the connect and make sure everything look correct.

As far as the XLT, they are a great riding sled. Find out how many miles are on it. Do a search on hear for XLT, certain years had a few crank problems. The fix was to add an extra oil line to the crank bearing at the clutch side I believe. The SP for that model meant that it was a Speacil Edition for that year. It had XTRA-12 suspension I believe. Depending on budget, you could put a long track kit on it later if you dont have the money for the RMK now. Something to think about.

Cant tell ya muchh about the RMK, dont know much about them. Here out east, we dont see that many. Actually Ive only seen one. So that tells ya how many.

Good site to find specs on the Polaris sleds is polarisman.com (http://www.polarisman.com)They list all the Polaris sleds w/ pics and give the factory specs on them. MAKE Sure and look them over real good.

Polaris didn't make a 800 RMK in 98 only 700's. The hoods did crack easy on them.

Yeah, after checking out that site I also realized that they did not make 800s for that year. He must have meant 700 or accidentally said 800, who knows.

well, could be a 6 or 700 RMK. they made both. or it could be an SKS storm. that would be an 800... if u have a pic of the sled i can tell u what it is. there are a lot of cheap XLT's around so shop around.

I have now owned 2 XLT's. A 93 and a now a 96. Both seem to be bullet proof. Both are running 10 000 + miles on them. THe 96 was rebuilt, and the 93 was original, and still running strong according to the new owner. My buddy rides a 95 and he seems to like it. If you could find a 96 or up they have the better suspension, i heard that the 95 x12 wasn't quite as good.

I don't know much about the older rmk's.
