Can somebody post a picture of a Tour Buddy installed in a ZX chassis? I am trying to install one in mine without instructions (bought it second hand)and I don't know what line to hook it on to. The one I thought it was doesn't fit the fitting.

Thanks!

Good luck on the install Charlo, I remember we had someone bring a tour buddy into the dealership to install. After taking a look at it we said NO way, as it was a nightmare to put together and we did NOT want to be liable for it, if it causes a fire or other damage.

Curiosity got the best of me, looked it up ..........

The concept of having extra fuel would be nice, but I can see where placement and running of the hoses would be an issue.

Charlo I am just curious what do you need that for? The only peeps I have EVER known to use them are Tcat owners so they can make it to the next gas station up in Cochrane :D

Lady K,

I do most of my riding from my camp which is about 50 miles in the woods. Back there gas gets expensive ($1.20 a litre, God knows what it will be this year) and it is not always the best quality. It just gives me more range, I hate worrying about fuel. I also got it for a really good deal but the instructions didn't come with it.

I will find the instructions I had for mine and post them for you. They are a great thing. I had one on my Legend 800 for 3 seasons. Didn't add much weight, not lopsided or anything, and the tour buddy gets used first so after the first 40-50km there is not difference at all. Have it still, as I took it off when I sold the Legend.

Anyone interested in it let me know, will take $80 bucks for it. For ZX chassis.

There is nothing to instlling a tour buddy on the Zx chassy I could do this in my sleep. Ready?

1) Fit the tour buddy on your belt guard to see how it will sit. Remove and place a dab of grease on the nut holes. Replace and push down. Lift straight up to remove. Holes are marked.

2) Remove belt guard and drill holes where the grease marks are. Place on the tour buddy and screw on tightly. Belt guard will bend alittle to conform with tour buddy shape.

3)Drill out rivets holding the metal portion of tool case strap. If you leave it on the tour buddy will rub on it and get a hole. Tool case will have to be carried somewhere else.

4)Replace belt guard and mounted tour buddy.

5)Remove the locking nut around the gas cap and the scews at the top of the plastic cover. You may also have to remove your handel bar cover.

6)Using a pair of needle nose pliers remove the vent tube from the top of the tank. This is in a rubber garment so you may need to work it a little. Try holding the garment in place with a flat screw driver.

7) When removed feed the line out to the engine bay and remove the plastic end. This tube can no be fed out of the way till you remove the tour buddy.

8)Using the new hose provided or if you do not have one. Purchase some new clear gas line from a auto parts store. Connect the plastic end to the line and feed through to the tank top. Push it in the rubber garment on the top of the tank. Make sure it is in tight. Connect the other end to the tour buddy. Zip tie the line out of the way. Don't pinch the line.

9)Replace the plastic tank cover and all hardwear. Your finished,.

The tour buddy cap is no your tank vent. As gas is drawn out of the tank it is replaced with the gas in the tour buddy till empty. On my 500 it takes about 70 km.
I have used the same tour buddy on 3 sleds now. Very easy to get on and off. If you have any questions pm or email me. I can send you picks if you like. It will only take me about 5 minutes to remove mine and to snap some pics.

Iceman & Doorider,

Thanks for all the info, tips and scans! Looks like I'll be mounting the Tour Buddy myself with little or no problems. I was talking to a dealer last week who sells them and he told me well over an hours labour + parts to "install it right" even though the instructions say 1 hour at the most. I don't have patients for dealers who try to rip you off. I guess I'll get the last laugh because I won't do any business there and I'll also buy my next sled elsewhere!
