If you're like me, all you've done is washed the sleds! I look at mine once in a while and, I must admit, I even sit on them and pretend I'm riding!

Mine are in storage-I have to go there to see them. All of them are suspended, the big Dog is on the sled lift for the summer.

I wont be doing much to mine. I got it ready last season and only rode 15 miles :slick: all in thanks to the wonderful snowless winter we had.

So I'll be cleaning the carbs, greasing everything and just giving it a good going over. And maybe checking to see if any of the local small rodent population have moved into it. :undercover:

Right now, nothing. It's too damn hot, and I cannot stand so much as standing in the shop, let alone doing anything remotely resembling work in it. Once the temps drop down below something resembling the surface temperature of the sun, I'll finish putting it back together, and see if I can get lucky, and get it started.

digging a six foot hole and giving it a push!!!!

ok not really sure

all my friends have been nagging me to go to tug hill so i went last year we got a room for 4 days put our stuff in the room unloaded the sleds and set out for a day of riding. i made it an astonishing 2.2 miles on my 2000 formula z 700 when it disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

apparently the oil injection line came off the mag side cylinder in the case :(

a little minor damage was done, took out the rod bearing so the rod and crank are shot i am sure when the rod came around it smacked the case and cracked that up the side. so the case is pretty well shot, scraped the cylinder and cracked a piece off the bottom,

i think i need a little work.

ohh yeah and the track is about the equivalent of an ashphalt track.

i think i need a new sled

Come september, will be replacing all drive bearings, (chain case, jack shaft, drive shaft). I blew them out on my 93 and what a damn mess, preventitive maint., a mountain bar and bar riser and some new ski skins. Also a little bit of clutching work and suspension setting, and i have to get the frame right at the engine mount welded up, so when i pull the engine to have that done, it will get cleaned up really well, and polished. And after all that, i think i am going to buy a different one, and keep this as a spare, if this job works out the way it is supposed to, i mean.

Should be tearing apart clutches and cleaning those up here soon. Once I finish the remodel on my bathroom I am going to try for a 2 inch handlbar riser and pray I have enough cable so I dont have to extend them and I need to finish putting my seat riser kit on that I made. But as we all know snow is a ways off but oh well I guess it will get done.

Install new track and new bearings
install tempa Flow
new brake pads
like to build a seat riser
and put on a widening kit with new shocks
May end up replacing belly pan and wind screen

How I killed my last weekend:

My trip started after I got off of work Sunday evening. As a reference, I work on DFW airport grounds. From here, I went up HWY 121, towards Bonham, TX. So much for the concept of "light" weekend traffic. From the airport, to McKinney, it was bumper to bumper, and running at a maximum of 30mph. The state is expanding this highway, but I have the bad feeling that it'll be too little, too late, once it's finally finished. Traffic was this horrible. Once beyond McKinney though, and the roads opened up. It felt great to finally be able to cool off some with the higher speeds. As for this road, there isn't much to say for it, beyond being a good vector towards my destination for the night - Broken Bow, OK. Scenery is primarily ranchland, scattered with the occasional small mom and pop business.

Once in Bonham, I picked up US82 east towards Paris. Paris was a planned stop to refill the gas tank, as I didn't leave with full one, and to grab some water to drink. The "C" store had .8l bottles of water on sale for $.50 each, so I bought two, and proceeded to down both of them before I continued on. I was planning on going through town, and finding a place to take a picture of the bike there, but ended up getting slightly lost, and in a residential area. Their signing was a bit confusing, so I made a left, when I should have made a right. Oh well. I never got that photo op. Maybe next time. I quickly got back on the proper road, now out of towm, and looped back on the bypass to head north on US271 towards the town of Hugo, OK. There was another bypass route around the town, so I chose to follow it this time around, instead of going through. Here, I picked up US70 east again, towards the town of Idabel. I had originally planned on picking up a small state road that would vector to Broken Bow, but the rapidly fading light had me reconsider this plan. US70 was a plenty scenic road, and I was happy enough with this route. Additionally, due to my internet searches on the town of Broken Bow, I was having second thoughts anyway on finding a cheap motel to stay in. Idabel became the first night destination instead. Pulling into town, I picked up US259, and turned northward. On the north side of town, I found a place for $35 bux. Perfect, as all I ever look for is a clean bed, everything else is just extra useless fluff to me. I unloaded the bike, and set the A/C in the room at max, and crawled into bed, a bit sore from what totalled to be approximately 184 miles of riding.

Sometime overnight, the air conditioner ceased to operate, so I woke up the next morning to a warm and muggy room. I hit the shower, and packed up my stuff into the bike - heading northward to Broken Bow. There, I stopped at a local mom and pop greasy spoon place, and had one of the best bacon, eggs, and hashbrowns breakfast that I've had in a good long while. The cook knew what "over medium" was supposed to be, and the hash browns were cooked to perfection.

Heading out after breakfast began the trip that I had set out the night before for. The day's iteniary was to ride all around Ouachita National Forest, following the roads marked as scenic roads on the map. US 270 north of Broken Bow begins the route. The roads here are awesome with broad sweepers, curves, and thick lush forest land. About 10 minutes into the ride, I decided that the radio was actually distracting the mood of the ride, so I shut it down, and enjoyed the hum of the engine, and the views that every hill opened up. About 60 miles into the ride, I see one sign noting SR1, which I intended to take eastward. This junction was on a tight 20mph curve, and was poorly marked. I almost missed it. One quick "U" turn later, I'm headed on the little spur to SR1. I like what I see at the junction. 13% grades and tight curves - sweet! Speed limit on this road was posted at 55 mph. I don't think I ever came close to that on the vast majority of the ride. I highly recommend this road to anyone passing through the area. It's 21 miles long between US 259 and US 271. I stopped at one of the pullouts to take in the scenery. The view was pretty good, but the humidity and haze really hid what the place really looked like. I took a few pictures to make a panorama, but they were disappointing overall. I couple of shots of the 'wing there turned out to be the best of the bunch. At the end of the road at US 271, SR 1 terminates with a very steep grade. Here was the only misstep of the bike throughout the ride. For whatever reason, it started popping in and out of gear while using the engine to help slow the bike. Pulling in the clutch lever, and letting it back out again, seemed to correct the problem, and it never again returned. At this point, I'm just going to chalk it up to not quite being fully in gear.

Once on US 217, I headed northward once again to the town of Wister. It was once again time to refuel the bike, and rehydrate me. I took a break, and studied the map. US 270 crossed at this point, and I decided to follow it back to US 259, heading southward back to SR 1. This time, I headed eastward towards Mena, AR. The road in this direction was something of a disappointment. It was fairly straight, and lacked the deep forest of the westward section. It became a road to just cruise on as I headed east. Riding into AR, there is a little spot in the National Forest that the state itself lays claim to, and calles Queen Wilhelmina State Park. Just before the cutoff to head into the lodge there, the state decided to begin a chip seal of the road. I'm not sure what their idea of enough gravel is, but the layer was THICK!! It was bad enough, that I felt like I was riding on a regular old gravel back road - YUCK!! The leisurely cruise bacame a tiptoe at a top speed of 25 mph. After several miles of this, I came along a pullout that led to a fire watch tower, and picnic area, so I decided to go have a look. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), the tower was locked down, so I couldn't go up to have a look at the surrounding area. I was getting a little sore again anyway, so the break was needed. After a brief rest, I continued eastward, and caught up to the road crews putting down the new chip seal. I didn't think the road could get much worse, but here, they were successful. They hadn't yet gotten around to sweeping off any excess, so here I found myself making deep tracks in the thick layer of gravel that they were dumping on this road. At this point, I officially became the enemy of every other driver on this road. Getting down the remaining few miles was simply a matter of keeping the bike upright on this stuff, and to add further insult to injury, several tight curves added another new dimention in steering on the unsteerable. I tiptoed through these curves at maybe 10mph, and after pulling out of them, finally found a pulloff, to allow the line of traffic behind me to pass. After they all went by, leaving a massive cloud of dust in their wake, I pulled back out, and finished the last mile to town. Thirst required another stop by now, and I wanted to look at the map again to see what would be a good route eastward. Getting off of the bike in town, I looked at the tires. I'm not joking, there was a dirt line on the tires, about even with where the tread ends, and the sidewalls begin. The gravel was that deep.

Looking at the map, US 270 showed a scenic route all the way to Hot Springs. It looked like a good route to take, so off I went, and enjoyed the ride east. As with the majority of this ride, the views were primarily lush forestland, dotted by the occasional small town to keep it all interesting. The highway had a few nice curves, where I was able to brush off the last of the crud from that nasty road "maintenance" job.

Pulling into Hot Springs, saddle sores, and my back were both telling me that I was pretty much done for the day, so I grabbed a room, and called it an evening after riding about 270 miles.

Tuesday was going home day. The sole plan was to head back home early enough to take care of a couple of bits of business before having to go back to work. Up a bit early, I checked out and headed southward on SR 7. At the I-30 junction I stopped for breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, and refilled the gas tank, so that I wouldn't have to stop again 30 miles down the road. Once on the interstate, I got myself in a rhythm, and quickly clicked off the miles to New Boston, TX. Here, I got back onto US 82 to stay away from the metromess traffic. I made a quck stop here in New Boston to grab some water, and look at the map. Judging by the fuel guage, I figured to be able to easily make it to Bonham before I'd need fuel. Heading westward, I quickly passed through the various small towns, one after the other. Coming back across Paris, I decided to follow the loop around, instead of try to pick my way through town like I did the first time. Pressing on, I began to look for the town of Bonham along my route. Well, I found out after the fact, that in order to stop in Bonham, you have to get off of that highway. Oh well, Sherman looked doable based on what the fuel guage was reading. I continue west, keeping an eye on the guage, and looking for a place to fuel along the way. About 13 miles east of town, the low fuel light lit up for the first time since I bought the bike. I'm starting to get more than a little nervous about fuel when I finally pull into Sherman. Here I put in 5.75 gallons of gas, with 240 miles on the odometer. In town, I spotted a Cingular Wireless store, and decided to try to see what I can do to have my broken cell phone replaced. All I ended up doing, was wasting a valuable hour of riding time listening to various peple quote me policy on why they couldn't fudge a lousy 5 days in a contract extention where I could get my phone replaced. I guess it was too much to ask, to have somebody actually engage their brains long enough to make a decision that would gurantee my business another two years. At this point, I was simply wanting to get home, and the heat was getting as bad as I've ridden in so far this year. I hopped back on, and rode nonstop to Decatur, where I decided at the last moment to stop in at the Honda shop and gab with the Goldwing tech. He was not in, so I took off, and headed to the house. I pulled into the driveway, hot, tired, sore, and feeling great from the weekend ride. The day finished with about another 337 miles on the odometer, making for the weekend trip distance of around 790 miles.

I think I'm going to go ahead and bite the bullet, and get a seatback and highway pegs installed on the bike. I cannot wait for the next opportunity to take off like this to come around. However, I need to be able to adjust my seating position as needed, so that I can ride farther between stops.
