Hehehe, I figured as much. That knocks nearly $100k off of the purchase price, without even attempting negotiations on the asking. :D
Speaking of Canada, I got a little surprise in the mail a couple of days ago. Apparently the RCMP border cops were wrong about out of country visitors being exempt from paying the tolls on the highways. I received a bill from the transportation department for using them. Oh well. I'll remember this, the next time I drive through the area.
permafrost 07-31-2004, 02:31 PM That sucks Wolfman, I have only used that highway two or three times. It is just far too exspensive. This is from the FAQ at the 407ETR website.
Q. Do out-of-province users get a free ride?
A. All users of the highway are billed, including out of province and U.S. users. If you choose to travel 407 ETR you are required by law to pay all tolls, fees and interest. The monthly bill is due upon mailing.
Wolfman 07-31-2004, 03:09 PM Yeah, the bill is rather pricey. I'm not really upset at the bill though. At least the road was in pristene condition, and you could tell that the money went back into the highway system. I kid you not, there are toll roads down here, that make you honestly wonder where the money is actually going. I took one between McAllister, OK, and Henrietta, OK, where it was so rough, that when I stopped at the booth to pay for my passage, I acutally asked them whose wallet was being padded with my money. To add insult to injury, I was pulling a trailer, and was socked with a substantial price hike over the base car rate. You should have seen the nasty look I got from the collector as she insisted that the tolls went back into the highway. Me, not being one to leave well enough alone, had to retort back at her, that I sure couldn't tell it from my observations.
unisoldier 08-01-2004, 07:27 AM I´ve been counting a little. 400 000 $, that is only 33 $ per registered member. I guess most members would like to spend that much money for this kind of purpose. Too bad that we wont have much time to collect the money. Wouldnt it be an idea to start save some funds for other opportunities. Could someone open an acount in wich u can put an voluntary fee. How about that idea? :dazed:
2002mxzx 08-03-2004, 05:16 PM Sounds like a good idea i am in

Wolfie, hardly any of us Ontarians use it. I've read/heard that the toll per mile is the highest in North America. We'd rather sit in the gridlock on the 401 than take it ......
BellevilleMXZ 08-04-2004, 07:05 AM I thought it was just under new ownership? I thought I heard it had been sold in the winter sometime, and was closed for a bit?
LadyK 08-04-2004, 10:08 AM Yes thats true Belleville now it is up for sale again.

If I had to use that road daily, I would have found an alternate as well. Thinking of paying that toll everyday, would quickly dissolve the wallet. :( But, I can hack it for use once.
That reminds me, I need to find that bill again, and get it sent out before they start "charging me interest."

I wonder what the reason is? Seems like rather rapid turnaround if the place is making money.
dooit2it 08-04-2004, 11:12 PM The ETR is by far the best way around Toronto, and I haven't received a single bill for using it yet (4 round trips last winter)... It may have helped that there was a sled in the back of the truck with the tailgate down, and the photo radar couldn't see the license plate on the truck :) works every time :) I know they say that the cops will chase ya down, but I haven't seen one yet (and will claim ignorance if caught in the future)
FishHog 08-05-2004, 11:38 AM I take the 407 alot as my time is valuable, and when I'm on vac, I just want to get there.
I have however seen many trucks pulled over with sleds in the back, along with trailers who's plate is under the trailer and not visible. Plead ignorance all you want, but you will still get the $170 fine. There are signs saying your plate must be visible.
To me, its not worth the risk, and I moved my trailer plate up so its visible. Of course they then sent me a bill for my truck, and another for my trailer. After a long time on the phone, they cancelled one.

revrnd 08-06-2004, 01:35 AM Fishie, beat me to it. I was going to say that there have been warnings on the 'net about hauling sleds on the 407.
