I just bought a 1986 phazer with a trailer for $400. It starts on the first or second pull and runs great. It's got 5,800 miles on it. I was just wondering about how many miles they get on average. Thanks for any help! BTW, heres a picture of it:

Good price!! My buddy got just over 5000 miles on his before a lower rod bearing took a poop and broke the case. His was not in near as good condition when he got it though. Also it broke when he was towing me back to the trailer after a breakdown. Check compression and see where it is at. Hope this helps. Congrats on the new toy. :)

My girlfriend has a 84 with around 5500 and it runs great. Her electric start is a tad fussy but it pulls so easy i don't mind pullin it for her. Really nice sled, and for $400 with trailer you stole that thing. don't plan on racing anybody but it will surely keep up on the trail as long as your group isn't nuts. I have around 135-140 hp in my Ultra and she doesn't get left behind on the trail. It still will hit around 90 (on the speedo) if you have a long enough lake. In my oppinion to small, physically, for me, perfect for her though, to bad these bad boys don't have 600's  None the less with less than 6000 miles you got a good deal. Enjoy

Those sleds are about as reliable as it gets, gas, oil and go kinda thing...lots of people get 10s of thousands of kilometers out of the phazer...just make sure the carbs and clutchs are clean, use good oil, and keep everything lubed and you shouldn't have many problems...

WOW! That Phazer looks like the day it was new! I'm sure if you continue to take the same care of it as the original owner, you shouldn't have any problems with it. It is a Yamaha after all..... :D

I know a guy that had over 12,000 miles on one without opening the motor. Nearly bulletproof.

What a steal!! You could probably get $1000 US for that sled up here!

I've got 2800 miles on my '96 and I'm going to do the top end this fall as the compression is down to 110 & 116. I'd rather spend the money than have problems on the trail. I also work mine fairly hard (deep snow and hills).

But ya, check the compression to see where you are and do the maintenace and it will run forever!!

The Yamaha Phazer will last for ever. I have a friend who has one and he can keep up with a 2002 Artic Cat 600.

I have to agree......

Whenever my Arctic Cat breaks down (fairly often), my 1990 Phazer II has always pulled it home.

Close to 6000 miles and looks and runs like new.......

Tip:

O-ring on Carb float bowls (replace it, its cheap and quick)

You'll see it next to the Cat

I think that o-ring was designed not to be replaced!!! I hate replacing that thing...I can never get it to seat properly! Any tricks?

Go to a swimming pool retailer and get yourself a small tub of a Vasaline product called "Magic Lube"

*****DO NOT USE VASALINE*****

We all know what happens when you mix Vasaline with rubber (c'mon, think for a minute..........there you go!!!!)

Magic Lube is a teflon based lubricant for o-rings...

Lube the o-ring out of the housing and put some more on both seal sufeces (making sure that the gasket is lying flat since it is actually square) and reassemble!!

Violla!! The money you spent on the gaskets will be more made up in gas that doesn't soak your belly pan!

My brother has a 480 phazer (1986 I think). I ride a 91 SR540SRV. In a side by side race at a 1/4 mile he beats me by about 20 yards every time. Granted, I weigh about 100 Lbs more than he does. I've seen him flip that thing over, drive it down hills and into gullys, jump hills that make me quiver just stand on. He thrashes that sled, and other than replacing a windshield and a handle bar, the machine runs excellent. Also, he bought it for $400.00 inclunding a two sled trailer.
It had 4,000 mile on it last year when he got it.

6500+ miles on my engine, and it still runs great. Everything else broke, though.
