Apparenly this sled had studs at one time. Would it have had stud guards installed?
What would they look like? Do I even need a stud guard?

Highly Recommend it ! Look up under you tunnel and you will see the heat exchangers, you will be able to easily see if there is stud damage or not. If you are not running studs now I wouldn't really worry about it, but if you are going to install some it would be the first thing I do. They are a plastic rail that slides right into you heat exchangers, only takes a few minutes ....... well worth it. I had undersized protectors once and I put a stud through my exchangers ...... pricy fix, lesson learned.

They should be inserted into your heat exchangers, in your tunnel. They should be about an inch long or so, usually black or white, made out of the same material as your Hyfax. If they are about flush with the fins on your heat exchangers, then they are just the stock tunnel protectors. The length will depend on what track you have, stud length, and if the track is notched above the clips. You want them to make it so that your studs will absolutely never come in contact with the heat exchangers. Check for any scratches in the tunnel (helps to take out the rear suspension to see if there's any damage up front).

Most any aftermarket sled parts dealer will have them, also can get them from your local dealer. Really inexpensive considering the cost of ruining a heat exchanger.
Usually called tunnel protectors or tunnel wear guards, here is 1 link.
