Hey all! I pulled the sled out over the weekend and remembered that when I was fogging it last spring that the oil pump marks were not lined up. What I can't remember is do you line up the marks at WOT or at idle on a Cat? Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Z

the first step should be to sinc the dual carbs so they start to open at the same time, next spray some carb cleaner on the spprring and arm assembly to rid it of belt dust and oily goo that can sometimes hang it open then if it not aligned you can take a couple of 10mls and an 8 for the cable and make youre adjustments, good luck!

Well I just went out this afternoon to adjust the pump and this is what I found. There are two marks on the pump arm, one is lined up at idle and there is a second mark that looks like it should line up at wide open throttle but it falls a little short. It is about 1/16 of an inch or so short. My problem is if one mark is lined up you can't adjust to line up the second without changing the first one. What do you all think, should I leave it alone as the one mark is lined up at idle? Help!!!

line it at idle, be sure not to have alot of freeplay on only one cable be it the carbs or cable to the pump. the fans seem to like lots of oil so if youre a lil rich dont worry to much about it.

I disagree! It is more important to align at WOT. That is where the Fuel/oil ratio is critical.

That was always my thinking, as well.

I would suggest checking your oil to gas usage ratio also.
I do agree that it is more important to have the marks line up at WOT.

I found the following from another post on this forum (I just did a search on oil pump adjustment):

"When I was servicing my sled in the fall, I spoke to my dealer about the high oil consumption, and he told me that I can lean down my oil pump as follows. There are two marks on the oil pump that should be aligned at WOT. By adjusting the nuts on the cable bracket, you can richen or lean the pump by observing the mark on the linkage. He told me that I can safely lean the pump so that the adjustable timing mark is one marks' width lean at WOT. I haven't figured out the exact oil ratio yet, but hope to soon."

So it sounds like the general consensus above may be correct, that it should be WOT...perhaps someone with a manual could confirm it.

Thanks everyone I finally got it taken care of last Saturday. There was some slack in the oil pump cable that was causing my situation. Once I got it adjusted the one mark is lined up at idle and the other is lined up at WOT. Again thank you all for your help!
