revrnd 08-13-2004, 06:54 PM I bought a bike this summer after a very long hiatus from cycling. I was wondering if there are any other MTB enthusiasts, new or long time, on here. I just thought we could exchange tips, advice on bikes, accessories or techniques.
Also, any MTB forums out there that compare to SW? I've found one @ MTB Forum (http://forums.mountainbike.com/index.jspa)
Russ Wheeler 08-13-2004, 07:04 PM I bought a bike this year, I remember as a kid I absolutley loved mountain biking...I've only been out a few times, I've had a busy busy summer, but I have been slacking I guess....when I do get out though, I do have a great time...
dooman 08-13-2004, 08:33 PM yep I have had my haro for several years.you would not want tips to ride like me :lmao:
revrnd 08-13-2004, 09:46 PM Doo' you guys carry a little seat bag w/ any tools? What do you suggest as a minimum to take when riding?
I just want to get out & get some fresh air & see things @ a slower pace.
Keith, have you ridden the old CN line from Peterborough to Omemee? Maybe we can hook up some day before the snow flies & check it out.
F7andZR800 08-16-2004, 01:32 AM I jsut got back from Colorado. And earleir, i went Mountain Biking around Brechanridge, or yeah lol
northpo 08-16-2004, 01:54 AM As for minimums, carry a spare tube, tire levers to change the tube, a small tire pump and a 5mm allen wrench.
LadyK 08-16-2004, 07:10 AM My dad rides his mountain bike for 100km rides w00t I told him they have things with gas now :p Seriously he belongs to a club and they just got back from Montreal where they rode 300+ KM in 5 days
jeepster 08-16-2004, 10:00 AM I got a real mountain bike last year, didn't know they were so pricy. You know with the front shocks and hydrolic disck brakes. I've been mountain biking for many years now, and this is the first year that i'm really into extreme mountain bike. To add to NORTHPO's list, a vice grip.

exactly what I carry, along with a few bucks in change in case I need a payphone, or just dying for a drink along the way.
I don't ride much rough stuff, mainly just for exercise around home.

Because its a thing called excersize and being heakthy. No mean to be rude. But instead of riding somthing motorized. Go for a ncie long bike ride and get pumped. I encourage your dad to keep riding his bike a ton. YOu can nver be too healthy :christmas:

Hydraulic brakes?? I'd like to see that. The one that I bought (and have ridden a whopping four miles on all year), has a disk brake on the front, and it's cable acutated. Works quite well, I may add. :D
F7andZR800 08-16-2004, 08:26 PM My dads Cannondale has a lefty front suspension. And it has the Disk Brakes. Its pretty sweet

ya, hydraulic disk front anb back, you gotta get used to it cause that thing brakes hardcore. The first time I took it for a ride, I almost whent over the bars, you just need to give the brake a small tap.
F7andZR800 08-17-2004, 12:02 PM When i ride it, i tap it and it works kinda like jake brake
revrnd 08-17-2004, 03:54 PM Andy, mine's a low tech Raleigh. Something to get me out of the house. One of the guys @ work that I sled w/ bought a carbon fiber Trek last year for some obscene amount of money.
Which races are you thinking of running at? Hopefully I'll be able to make it to Huntsville & Horseshoe this year. The CSRA schedule should be out mid-September.
I rode the snowmobile trail/rail line from Blackwater (Hwy 12 crossing) to Uxbridge & back last night, 18 & a half miles. On the return trip I met a guy that was riding from Lindsay to Markham

I need to get a copy of the rules to know if my clutch kit (Cudney's kit) is legal or not and if I can run C&A Razors. I'll ride with precisions if I have to, but not without the clutch kit.
Send a email to Ken Avann. He should be able to straighten out any questions you have. Also, skidoo175 has raced the last 2 seasons. I'm not sure if his sleds were bone stock or not. The REV he raced this winter (a '03 MXZx) had C & A skis on it. Mind you he wasn't racing Trail this past season.
revrnd 08-19-2004, 04:27 PM I found a forum that is busier than the 1st link I listed.Click me (http://forums.mtbr.com/)
It's @ the MTBreview.com website.
MXZOOoom 08-22-2004, 12:19 PM I don't mine climbing the hills, I hate going down them !!.
So I prefer the road myself.
I average a speed of 24kmh ( so ride between 23 and 30 klmh )
The adrenaline kicks in after around 7klicks and around 100 klicks it starts to slow lol
kennypope 08-22-2004, 04:43 PM Ya I did the same thing as Revrnd, use to ride all the time then got away from it for a few years, then dug out the old GT and got it tuned up and started riding again. There's a new trail in town that was just made last year and once I discovered that I was hooked again very challenging lots of hills to climb. So I got a new bike I tried all differen't full suspention bikes but perfer the hard tails. Ended up getting a Gary Fisher 27 speed. Now I'm upsessed I feel guilty if I miss just one day. Now I plan too joing the local club. I even got all the gear so I can ride right until the snow flies. It will be nice too have real strong legs for sledding, which is a real bonus on a rev, cause I find myself standing up more than sitting!!
revrnd 04-29-2005, 11:10 AM I've been out quite a bit this month already, so I don't miss the sledding. Any of you GTA guys ride in the Durham Forest near Uxbridge? I also checked out the old tree nursery @ Orono the other day.
The other Saturday I fode in Toronto from Woodbine Beach out the Leslie St. Spit & over to the Humber River & back. Total mileage 36 miles. My brother says if he wants to do that he'll take the car. It was a nice day  so the eye candy  was out.
zr580cat 05-03-2005, 03:20 PM I have a Schwinn Moab and love the thing. I didn't ride it much last year, but hope to get some more use this year.
A few years ago, when I first got it, I biked trails almost daily. Now that I've gained some pounds and have gotten out of shape, just a ride around town with my son almost kills me!
CORY9 05-03-2005, 05:57 PM Geez, I've still got the Raleigh bike my Dad bought me for my 16th birthday, close to 30 years ago! It's one of those speed bikes with the skinny tires, still in good shape though. Probably from lack of use!
performancex 05-03-2005, 11:31 PM I loved biking growing up. I rode it everywhere, and then all over trails for fun. Haven't had one in about 6 years now, tho, since my last one was stolen at college. Can't wait to buy another, soon.
