My friend was going camping with another friend for a couple of days, and my friend brought is 2000 yamaha banshee well modifyed for the trip. They were half way there when the other guy through his cigarette out of the window like many people doo, and a couple of minutes later, my friend saw like a ball of fire in the back of his pickup truck, so they stoped beside the road to check out what was happening. To his surprise, all the back of the pickup truck was one big ball of fire. All the fuel, oil, camping gear hell, whatever was in the box was burning, ya the ATV was in the box also. He lost everything that was in the pickups box. The insurance company gave him 4000$ for the ATV that was worth well over 6000$ with all the mods and they wanted to give him a used tailgate for the truck.

I was just thinking the other day about the iconsiderate people who smoke and flick their butts wherever they want. {I used to be one of them} The litter, the chance of forest fire, it's amazing that people think it's O.k. to litter just because its small. Your buddy has to be livid that someone elses careless smoking caused his loss.Sucks to be him!!!

Just one more way that peoples smoking costs us all big $$ (health care costs, insurance claims, productivity)

One more insurance claim that in some way or another will effect all our insurance rates.

We should consider ourselves lucky that it landed in the box and not in the forest or the the costs attributed to a forest fire might be coming out of our wallets

Just wish I could say or do something that would help people stop. Let me know if there is.

Dear smoking opposers,

Freedom, has it lost all its meaning? Yes, people have the right to breathe clean air but, people also have the freedom to smoke tobacco. When did America become the land of the free, between the lines? Smokers can smoke outdoors but should not inforce their burn-inhaling upon others indoors. I am not a smoker and wish to never to become one.

We should be equal and not partison when discussing "Smoking".

My two cents. SWRules

I gave them up @5 years ago and havent looked back. Smoking is an addiction, that becomes both physical and mental. To this day I still think about having a cigg so the mental effects still have me a little. Im lucky enough to have the willpower to stay off them and wont go back to them.

For the most part it dosent bother me to be around smokers, except when Im in a confined area......yuck that smell. It took my nose about 2 weeks to get clear after I quit, and that was when I realy noticed how awful the smell is. Food and drink even tasted bad for a few weeks. I can understand completly why alot of people cant get away from the addiction.

My Dad killed himself slowly with cigs. Mom is trying to catch up with him.

Yes, people have the right to commit slow scuicide with tobacco if they wish. However, they do NOT have the right to throw their leftover filth all over the highways. As for the guy whose stuff got destroyed by a careless smoker, it's too bad that he didn't catch the moron. The guy would have had to stand to arson charges, and would have deserved them.

Jeepster, I guess to your friend you could say "Heeere's your sign!!!"

I think the same thing as most of you when I see someone toss their lit butts on the highways....has to be the hightest point of lack of consideration for your environment and the possible outcomes. If you smoke 'em, you should keep 'em in your car. It amazes me how some people think they have the right to force the effects of their habit on the rest of us. Kudos to the smokers that keep their habit to themselves and are considerate enough of others to keep the effects to a minimum.

We were driving behind this girl who was smoking, and my dad said. "Look, if everyone through their ugly butts out the window. The highway would be coverd in butts. Why do we need to litter ciggerates?"

Personally, smoking is the stupoidest, dumbest, thing you can do. And the way people do it is horrible.

He thinks that the cigarette got stuck in the tent and sleeeping bags wich are made of synthetic material, and god knows how that stuff has no resistance what so ever to fire or heat. Like I said earlier, everything was in the pickups box, ATV, camping gear, gas, oil... whatever cought on fire first, just starded a chaine reaction. The passenger just didn't through his butt far enough, got cought in the backdraft created in the back of the pickups cab and landed in the box.

That's what I thought, it was your buddy's passenger, right? Not someone else on the road?

As for the anti-smoking rhetoric, I used to smoke and I quit. I had my own reasons and they are mine alone. If someone wants to kill themselves on cigarette smoke, all the power to 'em. I also think that smoking-related diseases should NOT be covered by public health care in Canada. You all took the onous on yourselves (as once I did) to destroy your lungs. No crime or harm in that...until I have to pay for your diseases.

I am not anti-smoking. Most of my friends still smoke and I have never (nor will I ever) complain or tell them what to do. It's a personal choice to commit suicide slowly. I just don't want to pay for your choices later.
:withstupid:

I couldn't agree more. No problem with smokers or smoking in general, just don't let me pay for your bad health. Same goes for injuries caused by riding without a helmet or riding/driving while intoxicated... these too should be instant disqualifiers for an insurance (public or private) claim.... Just when you thought people get passionate about their views on smoking, Hossman's gotta throw in helmet laws and DUI's.....

Bingo, wouldn't like to be in his shoes but in the other hand, he didn't pay for nothing and didn't offer any compensation ither.
