I was just looking through some pictures from last winter and found this one.

It's the inside of my ice shack.

Three of us built it last winter and had the best time ever in it.

It was our winter cabin and we spent every weekend in it always spending the night. That way after a long day of riding we come back to the shack cook up some fish on the stove and suck back a case and pass out on one of the bunk beds.

It's 8' x 16' with 8' high walls 2x4 construction and fully insulated. It sleeps 6-8 people and is fully wired for AC (generator) or DC (battery).

We haul it out to the ice on a car trailer and set it up for the winter.

I have a 4' square 1/2" thick plexiglass window (so it won't get smashed) installed along with a skylight in the ceiling so we have lots of light.

I love winter cause of my sled and my shack.

No picture of the outside.

For the other winnipeger's I put the shack on the red a mile or so south of the steam plant in Selkirk.

That's my buddy fishing. Sorry for the quality.

Yep I seen it as well. Can't remember were you guys the ones with the Sat dish as well ? Likely heard me blasting past it at 100 mph on my Rev. If I would have know I would have stopped in. Looks like a bottle of Lamb's rum as well. Hope you didn't eat them fish. Not exactly the cleanest water.

Yup. That was us.

Have to be able to watch hockey.

We'll probably have it in the same place this year.

Our buddies were the one's with the big Labatt Blue ice shack right beside it.

Where also making a huge hockey rink this winter. We'll have it all marked out with christmas trees so no one hits it.

Only if you mean Chain pickerel(esox niger), which are a sub-species of northern pike. They are also called blue pike by some. What it comes down to is different names for the same fish depending on what region the person lives in. Some people call pike Jackfish.

as for pickerel/walleye,
In quebec they call them Dore, in ontario we call them pickerel and in the states and other places out west they call the walleye, in europe they are called Zander. Walleye and their close relatives have belonged to a family known as genus Stizostedion. That has been recently changed to genus Sander to note the relationship between them and european Zander. As long as you are catching them it doesnt really matter, lol. Does Manitoba release a Fish consumption saftey guide? Ontario did this for a while, it tested fish in most of the lakes and said which size is safe to eat and how many times a year you can eat it. It sucks having to put that many restricions on a meal. I just eat the little guys.

Actually...Zander is a different species than walleye, though closely related to both walleye and sauger.

Walleye is the proper accepted common name, but slang over most of Canada calles them pickerel....

And that is a sweet shack!!!

'Pickerel Cheeks' sound better than 'Walleye Cheeks' too. Northern Pike are well known around Saskatchewan as Pike, Jack, Jack Fish, Snakes and Hammer Heads for the scrappy little guys.
