I got this email today @ work:

The following memo came from the Windsor Transmission Plant and I thought may interest
those of you travelling to Detroit on business. Please delete if you don't
travel to US.

Highway 402 Changes
I received the following notification from Windsor Divisional Security this
morning and wanted to pass it on to you in case you travel highway 402 from
the Port Huron/ Sarnia crossing out to highway 401. Due to recent
fatalities on the 402 just east of Sarnia there has been some changes to
the posted speed limit for west bound traffic. We have been advised by the
O.P.P. that there were two fatal accidents in the past week with people
travelling faster then the posted speed and running into the back end of
trucks that are stopped due to border crossing delays. The Police have
advised us that they will be a more aggressive in enforcing traffic
violations. For west bound traffic the new posted speed limit is 70
Kilometres Per Hour (43.5 Miles Per Hour) and this speed reduced zone
stretches out for 7 Kilometres (4.3 Miles) east of Sarnia.
(Reprinted from Windsor Scorecard)

Coming home from the States @ this crossing, I have seen trucks stopped on the highway for a couple of miles.

Yesterday they were lined up for atleast 6 miles, and over a 3 hour wait.

And its only going to get worse with more security checks.

For those who are interested, there is a web site showing border wait times at

http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/customs/general/times/menu-e.html

I saw a pic in the paper the other day. A transport rearended another stopped truck. The driver was killed. It looked like it was taken @ night.

yea, it was a bad one.

guys are doing 120km/h and all of a sudden run into a stopped truck. It aint pretty.

They have warning signs up, but I think in the middle of the night, the drivers are half asleep.

I've come across there late @ night heading to Indiana & it is a boring stretch of highway. You ought to try I-69 south of Fort Wayne @ 4 in the morning

London to sarnia on the 402 is the worst hour of driving, its just so flat and boring, I have a hard time staying awake even when I'm well rested.

Radio reports are saying that due to labour disputes, the customs people are slowing things down even more today.

If your coming this way to cross the border, I would recommend taking the car ferry in Sombra.
