: No Pull Start For New Yammis?

Was looking at the new Yammi lineup and read that (on certain models?) there is no recoil to start the sled, only the turnkey. Is this correct, and how safe would you feel going out on the trails knowing that you only have one way to start your sled?

Even if an RX had a recoil, I doubt you'd yank it over when cold.
IMO, they need a kick pedal as a back-up :)

Scared me when I bought the RX-1. I carry a set of motorcycle jumper cables (very compact). Yamaha has positive and negative leads out and accessible in case you need to jumper the sled. Never had to do this, but nice to know if I have to. I can't imagine pulling over that 1000cc engine.

I would rather have a pull option on a 1000cc sled, no matter how hard it is to pull. The dealer should throw in a pair of booster cables free of charge when the company is saving that much and charging the buyer the same!

Hey but what do I know :D Just my 2 cents worth VS. the MILLIONS saved by yammy:sly:

I never worry about the lack of pull cord on my car...... :D

Anybody notice how street bikes don't have kick starters anymore. I haven't read one post on any of the many sites I visit of someone not being able to start their RX-1/Warrior let alone being stranded :bash:

yeah, but you can always roll a bike down a hill and pop the clutch.

Even with the booster cables you will still have to have another machine with a battery to jump it.

Sure you can if you're riding a 883 sportster. I'd like to see my 72 year old Father inlaw do that with his Aspencade :lmao:

Bottom line is that it's not an issue. I'm not sure where you ride Mudweiser, but where I ride there are 2-ups everywhere and almost all of them have batteries.

Ah yes but how many of us ever take our car down a trail in the middle of the night in -30C temps and be 75 miles from the nearest gas station. To me it is very surprising that there is no back up what so ever.

Talk to some of our Alaskan members.

Mighty-some people will never be convinced. Lots of sleds have batteries and starters these days. It's conceivable that you could get stranded-last year a guy riding with us on his MXZ, stopped, went ot start again and the pull rope came all the way out and stayed-and that emergency start set-up on the clutch would not work. Luckily we had come tools and took apart his recoil right there and fixed it temporarily. Could well have been in the same situation as having no one to jumper off of-but at least 3 of those sleds I was with had a battery........

And some just may need or want some extra insurance in case something happens. Everyone likely has an example and I do to. Last year 2 RX 1`s in our group would not start in -35 weather. Both killed the battery. All of the 2 strokers started. But none of us simple 2 strokers have a battery. It was a good thing the sleds were at the cabin and we hooked up a battery to them and used a hair dryer to warm them up a little so they could start. At least I got to play for a while.

what did we all do when we only had recoils and no electric start ? because until lately there was no back up system for a broken recoil.

We always have had a back up to the recoil. Wrap a rope or something around the primary clutch and pull. Hard to do it on the 4 strokers.

I suppose there's always something to worry about - and a back-up method of starting wouldn't hurt... Of course, at -25, my trusty old 2-stroke won't start either. One such morning last winter pulling the rip-cord only served to pull the entire machine around the back yard, as the motor refused to turn over.... Hey, at 9000kms, at least she's still got LOTS of compression. :D

Anyone actually started a sled with the rope wrapped around the primary? One word to the wise Keep your gloves on and wear your helmet. Hopefully your only issue was a dead battery or a broken rope. Cause if it did not want to start then your going to need a tow.

I have pull started my 4 cylinder 2 stroke Mercury Outboard that I can guarantee is much harder than the sled to crank over.
