While looking for a gas tank for my SRV, I found several adds for plastic skins. Can somebody fill me in as to what these offer over traditional metal skis. Also I'm still looking for a gas tank. New ones are around $100.00. I was hoping to come across a used one. I would appreciate any input.
Thanks,

They only thing i see is that metal skis are more money and rust, and the ski skins are lite and lease money than steal skis.

They reduce friction, save your steel skis from damage, plastic skis re the way to go, they are a hell of alot lighter the steel skis.

Only yesterday I removed the skins from my 97 Yamaha to put them on my Polaris. The ski`s look like they just came out of the factory. Not a mark on them. I say they are well worth the money. The only drawback I see with them is it increases your turning radius a little bit. :)

Ski skins add strength and reduce friction. From what you posted you're talking about skins, not replacing your metal skis with plastic ones. You put the skins over your existing steel skis and they save wear and tear. Plastic skis on the other hand are replacements for your metal skis and are considerably more expensive than metal skis. The handling characteristics won't change by adding skins, but replacing metal skis with plastic ones allows you more give, as they flex with the bumps.
