People who say "bom-ba-deer" drive me nuts. *That's just thick-headed.
But here in the US, mx-zee is what we say because our alphabet goes w-x-y-zee, not w-x-y-zed, like you canucks.

My main beef is with that Kalhok guy that works for Ski-doo. His father was some big shot there. I wonder how he got the job? He was on Snowtrax this winter talking about the new sleds & when he was talking, he didn't sound too sure of himself, plus he kept saying zee.

Here at the Truck Plant, when the Americans are up from Detroit, it drives them crazy when we say Zed 71 or start talking metric * http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sly.gif *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Here's my 2 cents worth. Being from the states, it's ZEE but think about it, ZED rhymes with lead and dead. That's not the words I want my sled associated with. Besides, I live amongst people who call snowmobiles "sno-cats" and I kindly tell them I don't drive a trail groomer.

I'm in the northern Red River Valley, and if you've ever been there, you'll agree it's the flattest, most treeless, windiest place on the planet. The "sno-cat" thing is used on both sides of the river from Grand Forks to the Canadian border. It's got to be some sort of "Valley Talk", because you don't hear it in other parts of MN or ND. Maybe it's because the Cat house in TRF is there.

Here you canucks go...from the english dictionary.

z or Z * Pronunciation Key *(ze)
n. pl. z's or Z's also zs or Zs
The 26th letter of the modern English alphabet.
Any of the speech sounds represented by the letter z.
The 26th in a series.
Something shaped like the letter Z.

z

\Z\ (z[=e]; in England commonly, the twenty-sixth and last letter of the English alphabet, is a vocal consonant. It is taken from the Latin letter Z, which came from the Greek alphabet, this having it from a Semitic source. The ultimate origin is probably Egyptian. Etymologically, it is most closely related to s, y, and j; as in glass, glaze; E. yoke,

I see no zed!

And maybe what the Z stands for....

atomic number
n. Symbol Z Abbr. at. no.
The number of protons in an atomic nucleus

In the states, a Z is pronounced zee, but zed is cool. It certainly doesn't drive me nutz either way. :p

There was a "Zed" in Pulp Fiction too.

"Who's chopper is it?"

"Zed's"

"Who's Zed?"

"Zed's dead baby, Zed's dead."

In the states zed is not part of our language. Using zed in such a way here sounds just as stupid to us as zee does to you Canadians.
The "z" in Z28 and the "Z" in the original Arctic cat Z were both taken from peoples last name. I feel that throwing that ed in there might be offensive to the people the companies were honoring.
These are just my opinions and I don't mean to offend or sound prejudiced. Say it how ever ya please.

I'm pretty sure the Z in Z28 does not refer to Zora Arkus-Duntov. GM has used Z to prefix RPO codes for many years:

Z32: Canadian Pontiac Parisienne
Z34: Model Conversion Chevrolet Lumina
Z49: Mandatory Canadian Base Equipment
Z62: Sierra Grande/Scottsdale Trim
Z71: Off Road Chassis Package
Z88: GMC Conversion
ZY1: Solid Paint

Just to name a few. Type GM RPO codes into Google & you'll get a lot of hits.

W/ the next generation Camaro to be built in Oshawa, will a Zed 28 or Zee 28 be offered? If 1 is, I know what most of us in the plant will be calling it  :D

i'm as canadian as they come and i say zee all the time, my kids always try to correct me lol. but to me i grew up in the 70's and 80's and it was always an iroc zee, or a zee 28, and its always been a zeebra. to me zee sounds much nicer and makes more sense.so i will say its a mxzee. the same as the older yami dirt bikes were a y zee 125.that was always one thing as a canadian i could never understand. i guess zed must be bilinguel up here and politically correct EH!!!!
