ok...trying to get the clutch off a 97 formula. JFC is that thing tight. used the cmp puller and after pounding, swearing, putting the puller bolt in and out a couple times...i got the outer half of the clutch to come free of the shaft. if i loosen the motor mounts, i can probably tilt the motor and remove the outer clutch assembly. i had just wanted to swap the primary spring and clean the clutch anyhow. should i just quit while i am ahead, and forget about trying to remove the crank side of the clutch?? anyone else been in this situation before? and yes, i did try some penetrating oil.

IMO, its a matter of will now dude, it has to come off! at least if your like me, i never let something kick my arse. put you puller in tighten hard, having someone hold the crank, hit the end of the puller hard, straight on, tighten puller again, hit again, tighten puller,,,,get it!

Like Machz1 said.
Doesn't Skidoo do the stupidest things sometimes? Here we have this giant hole in the side of the belly pan but it isnt low enough to pull the outer half of the clutch thru. So now it requires a special puller to remove the whole damm thing and the most frustrating part, Skidoo never changed it from day one too make it any better! :bash:

Use a little grease on the end of the puller where it contacts the crankshaft.

I'm sure that I will get yelled at by some crank builder for saying this, but did you try putting an impact wrench on the puller? I usually try to use a strap wrench on the clutch and a breaker bar on the puller, but if it is really stuck I put the impact to it. Turn your pressure regulator on the impact way down and it will usually come off pretty easy. Don't run 120 PSI to the impact gun if you're going to try this, it does take that much, and if you use too much you run the risk of de-indexing your crank...
Put lots of anti-sieze on the puller...

I wouldnt use a impact gun on anything but the highest quality puller or you may emd up buying new clutch too. Yea using an impact isnt the greates for the crank either but sometimes ya just gotta do it.. Id first try the other method of whacking the puller with a a hammer once its good and tight, it usually works

I've run into this problem with a/m pullers and oem ones, the problem is that the end of the puller jams into the snub of the crank, if it has enough threads grind it down so it's smaller than the threads on the clutch retainer bolt if not cut a short pin that is small enough and fish it into the bolt hole it must push on the bottom of the bolt hole this hard to explain need a pic...
