seem to have trouble with the clutch side spark plug.

seems to foul quite a bit on the clutch side.

i think i need to scrap the carbs. they are modified for warm weather grass drags.

the idle screw notch has been cut deeper little or no adjustment and it has plastic plugs on the bottom side of the slide which are adjustable.

oh yeah it is a 97 form z 583.

anybody seen anything of the sort ?

it's got a silencer on the exhaust and has beeen clutched.

runs great when it's cold cold cold above 32 tho it can get a little testy.

i still think it's the carbs i will try to post pictures of the slides so you can see what i'm stuck with.

ANY FEED BACK IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.

also any clutch tuners out there.
i know the factory settings for the 583 are to engage at 4200 to 4500 rpm.
can you put in the softer spring and less of a helix. would like to set it up more as a trail machine rather than a holeshot machine.

I had the same problem last year. I was told to get my carbs cleaned and get them readjusted which I plan to do before the season starts. I hope thats what it is because I went through about seven spark plugs on that side. :bash: Good luck on yours hope you get it running good.

The factory engagement for the 583 should be around 3800rpm I believe. Are you sure your sled is not clutched already?

Regarding the carbs, make sure your carbs are clean like beretta said...this could very well be the difference. And while you're in there, check what jets you've got in. They are supposed to be staggered, richer to the clutch side so don't worry if they are.

The plastic plugs, are called UFO's, made by Thunder Products. It modifies the air speed going thru the carbs. They need to be tuned in the pilot jet it sounds to me.

carbs are clean.
i think the problem is the fact they have been modified so much for grass drag setup that i cant get them back to factory settings. i think i'll have to scrap them and get new ones to get back to stock. dont get me wrong the sled is a real bad ### when conditions are perfect. in fact the sled is so fast it scares me at times.

i would prefer to get it back to stock considering i am more of a trail rider rather than a power rider.

as for the clutch issues i know it has been clutched hard.
she picks the skis for the long run and diggs off the line.

i presume it has a different helix cuz the adjustments via the bolts on the outside cover has little or no change on rpm engagement. i have not had the opportunity to pull it and check it out as of yet. maybe in the next couple of weeks i can get it done.

thanks for the info on the ufos i can check with them and see if i need to make carb adjustments based on their reccomendations. i have been trying to do standard mikuni settings from the book and the ufos may have some sort of interactions with the jetting.

thanks for the info from all.

anyone have the clutch book in an e-mail format that they could e-mail me?
would be greatly appreciated.
