I'm updating my list of Ontario motels. Right now I have just over a thousand businesses listed. If you have any tips, either good or bad about any particular places let me know. Also, any riders from Minnesota or Wisconsin that have ridden in Ontario west of Thunder Bay or east of Kenora, please fill me in. I don't have much info for that area.

Finally, if you'd like me to send you a copy of the list, send me a email @ mxz_kris@sympatico.ca

I've been to Rolly's motel in Ramore (between North bay and Timmins) and It was OK. Not sure how close to the trails cause I was there during spring.

AC: You can see Rolly's from the trail where it crosses highway #11. The trail is to the north of the motel.

When I'm rating the motels, I'm a little more generous than I would be for use in the summer.

My ratings:

Excellent- Top notch place you would stay at any time of the year. Clean rooms with no need for repairs or painting.

Good - A decent place for year round use. May need a bit of TLC.

Fair - Needs some work, painting or cleaning. You really wouldn't stay there in the summer months. But make do when you're in Armpit, Ontario & there aren't any other rooms in town. At least it will be warm & dry.

Poor - Crane Lake House *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif I guess I should add it to the list & just put Not Recommended.

Don't forget Paul's house.
His mom cooks a mean breakfast, and always welcomes snowmobilers with open arms. :D

We've stayed at the Strathroy Motor Inn. Close to trails, good-sized parking lot right outside your room, clean recently remodeled rooms, reasonable rates. Would definitely stay there again. In fact, in looking at your rating schedule I'd say this one is Excellent.

If you don't already have it you can add Ahmic Lake Resort.

They have sled rentals and fuel on site.

http://www.ahmiclakeresort.onlink.net/sledding.htm

I know the owners quite well and they are very nice hosts.

They are located right next to the C104D lake trail between Magnetawan and Ahmic Harbour.

I know the area well and the trails are excellent.

Well it's time for me to update my Ontario motel list. If you stayed @ a motel in Ontario that is a possible sledding destination let me know.

Also, if you are familiar w/ my list & know of any places that have closed or changed names, please post here & I'll straighten things out.

Thanks.

Great work on the list Kris, I use it all the time, please continue the great work. .....

Torbay in North Bay is one of my favorite places to stay. Martin and Terrol are great people, sledder friendly and quite helpfull.

Although they don't have a restaurant on site, the "rooms" are all mini cottages so you can prep your own meals or order in something.

If not rated "ex" at least a "g"

Michael

While on the topic, I think this topic, or your list, should be pinned somewhere easily accessible.

maybe what I can do before the season starts is pin a topic in each state/province forum. I've had a few sledders ask about Quebec info, but I can't help them.

Corey's put my motel & resort listing online. I can't thank him enough for the job he did in the amount of time he had. If you want to check it out here's the link:
Click here (http://www.snowmobileworld.com/ontario/index.php) He made a few suggestions that will help sledders plan their trips in Ontario.

Kris, the web address for Lillabelle should be www.lillabellelodge.com. Great job on the list. I don't even want to think about how much time it took.

I've been working on it for about 5 years now. I guess it started by a guy @ work not being able to find a motel in a town in northern Ontario during a sledding trip. He was using the OSM map atlas listings. The 2 or 3 motels were booked up the week he was going sledding. I knew of another motel in the town & told him. He called them & got the rooms he needed. People were only calling & booking @ the motels they could find.

I also knew of towns that had lodgings that weren't included. So I gathered up all my trail maps & started the spreadsheet. Since then I've added about 90 folks to a mailing list. They get updated lists emailed to them about once a month thru the season. They've also filled me in on various mistakes I've made or a report about a motel they've stayed at.

Corey, tried to add the list to SW last season, but there were problems because I used Excel. Anyways, I'm glad people find it useful.

Kris,

Be carefull who you take information from. I've stayed at a few of these places. Some are dumps, and others treat you like crap!!! and some are very expensive.

Come on $50-$60 a night for a crapper is lots. $80-$100 better have a hot tub and be pretty nice.

Most of us snowmobiler's aren't too fussy on where we crash when our women aren't around.

Just my thoughts for your list !!

If you don't want to post out in the open, send me a PM w/ places that you'd stay away from. I've seen a few personally while riding that I wouldn't stay @ & have noted this.

The "C" or "fair" rating more or less sums up what you've said. It will do because we're sledding & it's the only place in town w/ rooms, but normally we wouldn't be caught dead in the place.

Also, any places that have strippers are marked as Not Recommended for obvious reasons. Maybe OK for the boys, but I doubt g/fs or wives would be impressed.

Folks it's that time of year that I start updating the motel list. If you've stayed at any places in Ontario this summer or last season that sledders are likely to ride to let me know about their facilities & how you would rate them. Inform me if a place has direct trail access & what the trail number (if known) is.

Nothing is worse than having to spark 3 blocks down the side of a street.

Also if you have any distances between towns & the route taken. I'm kind of shy in info for the parts of Ontario west of Hwy. 400 & east of Hwy. 41.

Any info, just PM to me & then Corey will add it to the motel page.
